Forum software

Does anyone know what video formats this forum supports? Using things like YouTube or Imgur links are no use to me because I host all my pictures and videos on my own website. The  tag works fine for pictures but I usually save my videos in .mp4 format.
I'm going to try to link to one but there may well be a blank space below this. If it doesn't work, the code I will be trying to use is

[video src="http://www.stevesbritannia.co.uk/Calbourne/Images/RunOnAir1.mp4"][/video]

Moderators: please don't edit this post. If you know what's wrong, please tell what I need to do so that I know for future use.

Regards, Steve

Edit: OK, I can link to the video with no problem. Now, how do embed it?

 :headscratch: I've had a look through the additional software packages we have installed along with the SMF software. I have found specific loaders for Vimeo and Utube but no clues to linking to other remote files. SMF identify you can buy  :paranoia: a multimedia package and suggest that may support it  :noidea:

So sorry it is very frustrating but I think only AdeV can answer this one  :killcomputer:

Hi Steve,

Your link works for me, in the sense that the video downloads to the browser cache, and then can be played if I click on it. In other words it is treated as a downloadable file.

However the "video src= tags don't at present. There does seem to be an error in your line -- you're missing a [video] tag, I believe.

I'll try a variation here:

test

<video width="320" height="240" controls>
  <source src=""http://www.stevesbritannia.co.uk/Calbourne/Images/RunOnAir1.mp4"" type="video/mp4">
 </video>

Edit, nope, video tags aren't supported this way in the software. I'll look into it a little more....

Generally to show a video some kind of player is required. Youtube and many other online video sources run a temporary proprietary player in your browser when you play the video in real time. Just hosting a file on your own website generally doesn't do that.

Looks like one possibility for SMF software might be Simple Audio Video Embedder, but can't tell if t will work with individual hosted videos....

Thanks for looking, folks.

Steve, the [video src=xxx][/video] tag works OK on the other forum I used but not here, unfortunately. The trouble is, BBCode is not implemented the same way across all platforms and each webmaster picks and chooses what is acceptable. Once I find something that works, I will store it in a library, otherwise, it will just have to be a link rather than embedded. It's not a big deal, I don't do many videos, anyway.

Jo, would it be OK to send AdeV a PM, do you think?

Regards, Steve

Edit: Steve, just seen your link. I will check it out, thanks.

Steve (Springcrocus) for now just putting the web address on the forum will allow others to click on it and see it - not ideal I know  :-\.

By all means PM AdeV but be warned he is always very busy both with work and having a young son, so don't hold your breath for a reply. The addon that vtsteam has identified may be the answer but I'm not going to dare try loading it  :paranoia: AdeV is the man who has the magic touch  :)

I have put a note in the Admin area about this. That way both Arnold and AdeV may see it and find a way to sort it.

Trying a different way of linking.

There is a video HERE

This last one works better as a link.

If I click the word HERE in the last post, it automatically plays the video in a new window. Does this work correctly for others?
