Mitutoyo 141-102 1-2" inside micrometer.
« on: February 03, 2023, 05:37:15 PM »
I've been looking for a decent inside micrometer as  my tingly fingers don't let me feel the vernier caliper too well these days.
Everything I looked at started at 2", but I wanted something smaller. I never knew these existed until I spotted this used one on ebay. Just £34.00 plus postage, it's an absolute bargain in perfect condition.  It's gonna change my life... :old:

New price nearly £150!. https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/measuring-and-test-equipment/internal-micrometers/141-101-25-50mm-inside-micrometer/p/MIT3251761A

Hi John

Looks like you bought the last one. Now showing 'out of stock'   :stir:

Good find.

Yes, I hate using vernier calipers for measuring holes with the work in the machine. It so awkward, especially if the vernier has no fine adjustment screw.

For bore measurements, I have a 2+" internal mic, telescopic gauges for holes 1/2" to 2" and small hole gauges down to 1/8". All bought gradually, lightly used or new-old-stock, on Ebay.

The first set of small hole gauges I built up was the Moore & Wright ball type. I don't get on very well with those as I find they have a very notchy feel in a less than perfectly smooth hole. Next, I found a set of the Mitutoyo ones. These have expanding pressed cups, and I find them better, but still tricky to get the feel right. Still looking out for something better, I came across the Starrett split ball type, and I find those usually work the best for me.

I could still do with something better to gauge a very shallow recess.

I'm going to treat myself to one of these when I get back from my holiday. Looks like just the job for those shallow recesses.

I have both of the ones Simply linked to. I don't know how I would get along without them.
