Hi From Yorkshire
« on: January 28, 2023, 12:11:43 PM »
Hi all from Yorkshire - Sheffield to be exact.

My name is Tim and I am not so much a model engineer, more a 'trying hard to be as good as some of those I have seen' type.  I too have migrated from the 'Dark Side' of LV's and 'What to do when the leccy runs out', principally to find both Simplyloco and Springcrocus, who have become 'virtual friends' over the internet through the power of this hobby of ours. Although I have met John once at a ME exhibition at Doncaster I have never met Steve.  I am also pleased to find Midland, Dalboy and Flying Fox on here as well, hopefully I will find more as I go.

I started my first loco at school starting ME evening classes with my dad aged around 9.  This was a Tich and I got to a 'rolling chassis' stage.  At this point I found the pub and was introduced to girls and that was the end of that for a good few years.  After marriage, house and two kids I eventually found time and money for an old Portass Dreadnaught Lathe and continued with the hobby from age 35 or so albeit making tools and equipment (most of the George Thomas portfolio) teaching myself how to work accurately and get a good finish at the same time.

I now have a few projects on the go, I tend get to a bit that requires thinking about and move onto something else more interesting until I have figured it out.

On the bench are:
Tich - yes that one which I started at 9, too many things wrong so of sentimental value now.
Juliet - rolling chassis, cylinders done valve gear underway
Canterbury Lamb - chassis complete working on air - tender complete - boiler underway
Virginia - rolling chassis - definitely on the back burrner for now
Also
Stuart D10 - a lockdown project - all done except crank and reversing gear need work and assembly
And
I recentlly bought an excellent Mongoliper at the rolling chassis stage again back burner for now
Oh and a G1 Princess of Wales on the go - the missus has agreed to a garden railway at last!

If I only had more time!!

Enough rambling already!!

Tim

Hi Tim, Nice to have you on here and an impressive portfolio. Sheffield would be a good place to be with all those skips full of potential barstock waiting to be liberated !! :)

Hello Tim, and welcome to MEM!

You, and some of the other new emigre's from another site seem to be bringing a lot of knowledge and experience with good ol' LBSC's designs, which I welcome. I have a few of his plans in file for possible future use. On my own back-burner is a US pattern, narrow gauge 2-4-0, at the  rolling chassis stage and based in part on BAT running gear. And an unfinished, scaled down version of Virginia is in the drawing files on the computer. But I've gotten distracted by IC engines.
Regards,
Ron
