Thank you for having me. 

I am a retired Tool and Die Maker turned Mechanical Engineer.  I still have a Bridgeport with an MX2 Proto Trak and a Harding HLV-BK.  In 2010 I built a Stuart D10 with reversing and finished a heavily modified Stuart #5 that my father had begun in 1982.  The engines in the case are the modified Stuart #5, Reeves Unicorn, Stuart D10 and Stuart #7, (the Reeves unicorn and Stuart #7 were built by my father).

I am currently working on a Stuart 10H and Stuart Beam engine.   I hope that I can be of service and learn as well.

Hi Djangodog, and welcome! Some fine looking models there and that's a beautiful display case for them as well. I'm in southeastern VT near the CT river. Fish there quite a bit. You'll find a lot of friendly modelers here with similar interests.

Thanks.  The ship model was built by my father.  He began it in February of 1938 and completed it in February of 1940, (2500 hours of work).  My brother’s wife didn’t like it and it ended up in a damp basement where the masts and bowsprit were broken off, the base warped and the rigging becoming rotted and a tangled mess.  I was fortunate enough to have the original drawings and I was able to restore it.  It was a strange experience.  I only wish that he had lived to see it restored.  He was quite upset the last time that he saw it, but I told him that I would restore it and preserve as much as I could.

That is a fine thing that you did Djangodog. Really happy that you could restore that ship and present it so well. 

I had a similar situation in reverse. I built a hot air engine over a month's time with my own castings, celebrating my father's 93rd birthday and gave it to him. He was an angineer. A couple years later my brother took over his life and squandered everything. My father passed away.

I've heard from my nephew the engine is in sad shape rusted now in the corner of my brother's garage. He said he would see if he could get it at some point. Maybe it could run again some day, but it would be a bittersweet job to do.
