Triumph 500 twin
« on: December 21, 2022, 06:13:06 PM »
After completing my Bentley Br2. I was looking for a new project. After seeing Mikes Triumph 650 model. I decided straight away what my next project was going to be. As a life long Triumph owner and fan, it had to be the 500 twin as I own one, which I could reference and had a workshop manual that gave data. that I could scale. I settled on 50cc which is about half size. I modelled each part and created an assembly and drawings made.
First job was to make a fixture plate so that I could attach the barrels and cylinder head to for machining. Next was the machining of the barrels which are in two parts followed by the making to the cylinder head.
I hope to post photos as this project progresses.

Nice work. It's like you were looking at the full size cylinders.

It would be easier to view your work, if you were to reduce the image size to something like 600 x 800

Cheers

To follow on: amazing!
PS. I've owned a number of Triumph motorcycles. The last one, a 1967 Trophy 650 bought brand new, fell to pieces around me!

Tormach 770.  I also have a Wabeco f1210 cnc mill which not a patch on the Tormach. I now use the Wabeco just for manual milling now that I have fitted digital readouts.

Okay the Tormach is quit a large mill! Does these have dovetail guides and trapezium of ball spindels?

I was wondering how a Tormach 440 would mill harder steels other than aluminium on feed rate and rpm's.
Never heard of Wabeco. They look alot like look a likes Hbm, Huvema or maybe they re-engineered on a Wabeco mill.

AlexS you might to better asking about CNC machines in another section. I know nothing about the 440.  Sorry.

Great project and as someone who never own a Car but only Motorcycles - it is a subject close to my heart.

I really couldn't figure what the 'strange lid' on top off the Cylinderhead was ...?... until I realized that it is your 'Model Cylinder Head' on top of the full size version  .... ups - but then again - I just came home from the Christmas Party with the Family (Us non English derivatives have it on the 24th.).

The Parts looks Amazing - so I will follow this with joy

I have now focused my attention to the rocker box covers. These has been machined from 1 x 1 1/2" alloy. First the hole was drilled through on the lathe for the rocker shaft. Then the insides and bottom were milled. Lots of machining time, programming and set up. 3D tool paths used in the cutting of this part.
