Have not commented for some time but have been following along a great build and certainly looks impresive. The only thing for me personally is the use of cap head screws as they look out of place on a engine of this style as stated thet is just me and no refection on your build quality.
Look forward to your next build.
Hope to see it running soon will it be on air or are the long term plans to have it running on steam

No point in doing 13 months hard work and not running it on steam. Triple expansion engines don't like running on air.  I'll wait until the Spring, when it's warmer and I can tinker in the garden.
Regarding the fixings, the builders of similar engines used the materials and methods available at the time. I'm doing exactly the same thing... :LittleAngel:
I have to finish this Britannia: I started it in 2005!
Happy New Year!
John

Minor details only: buffers, hooks and chains, transfers on the tender, stuff like that. It's a glass case model: I gave up wanting to drive it many years ago!

Glass Case Anyone?

TEMU China, £15.51, delivered in 7 days!

It's held together with tiny rubber bands on the protrusions. It even sports a door! I could make a nice wooden integral plinth to replace the plastic one. The acrylic is a bit soft, but the dust will be kept at bay!

Strip down, reassembly and timing.

A whole year's work on the bench!
The main cylinder block has to be separated from the HP cylinder, slide valves fitted in all three valve chests, fitted together with Loctite 510 jointing compound everywhere, every single screw joint has to be cleaned and anointed with Loctite threadlock, etc.etc..
I can pick at it at my leisure... 🙂

That is a lot of parts and represents a ton of work.  It is really neat to see all the parts laid out like that though.

Back in the workshop after a three month break. Bliss!

I assembled the valve gear and pinned everything. It works! If you are logged into Facebook this video will appear. I just can't be bothered with YouTube any more!

Hi Folks, and apologies about the restricted video. I implied that the machine was running: however, it's only the reversing gear that is assembled fully and running. Steam can wait!

On attempting to assemble the beast I soon realised that a repaint was required: the rattle can paint just wasn't robust enough to withstand the rigours endured by a high speed marine engine!
I've stripped it and repainted it with Moss Green 2k acrylic. I also took Jason's advice and painted the base 2k satin black.  I do believe it now looks the part and the paint job is nigh on indestructible!
No pistons or valve gear in it, but I need the continuous motivation!
