Here are all the parts finish machined, and a trial assembly. It is sitting on a temporary softwood stand made to check the proportions. Now, off to the pain paint shop.

For paint I am using Humbrol applied by brush. In retrospect, after preparation I probably should have started with some polyester filler in a few small areas. But I don't have any at the moment, and would have needed only a tiny amount. I do have knifing putty and decided that would do well enough.  Here the body has had the most attention so far, with nine coats: two thick coats of grey primer and a few patches of filler putty, rub down, two thick coats of grey primer, rub down, two thinnish coats of matt brick red as a marker, two more medium coats of grey primer, and one coat of matt dark green as a first undercoat, and a rub down. All applied with a soft sable artists' brush.

Meanwhile I have also been fettling the impeller. I don't think I am going to take it as far as bright metal all over.

One of my least favorite jobs - as you easily can spend countless hours on the preperations ....

But most enjoy the look of a grat finish -> ballance ....

Another undercoat and two gloss to finish the job, making twelve coats in all on the body. The last coat was a bit thick and there are a couple of runs, but they are not all that noticeable. The Humbrol Brunswick Green No 3 was too blue for my taste, so after some experiments I settled for adding a little Bright Red No 19 which warmed the hue and softened the colour saturation a bit. (It surprised me how little red is needed to make a lovely rich chocolate brown.)

The hardwood stand was made from a teak-like substance that, I think, came from some garden chairs that fell apart. I don't think it is Iroko. For this sort of job I want something fine grained and with little colour variation or figure.

The pipes have been soldered into the fittings, and a pair of mounting bolts and washers made. The supplied setscrews have been tidied up and all assembled. Just for show at the moment, no sealant or gland packing. I am calling it done.

the result is first class, pristine finitions !

On plumbing parts, the angles of the nuts and bolt heads are commonly rounded by the use of inappropriate wrenches or chewed up by the teeth of crocodile pliers, it's good not to push the realism that far!
