Does anyone recognise this coil please?

I have recently been asked about an R.L.E. engine that’s fitted with a coil shown in the picture below. I can only guess that it has points, no clear picture from the current owner. There’s also a 6 volt motorcycle battery for the power.

I tried an internet search but nothing comes up. This might be an item that was available up to 20+ years ago.

Your help would be greatly appreciated by both myself and the current owner.

The logo is the same. Having just checked their website it must be quite an old product? Further enquiries will be made.

Yes Minimag used to do a number of other items before they "retired" to the Island.

I would second that Jo. I have bought several ignition systems from them and they have always been most helpful.

He wound some prototype LT coils for me with different resistance, now has them as a standard item. Used to be a few miles from me and I regularly drove past his door.

I’m guessing that it’s going to be a quite simple points, condenser, coil and battery setup then?

So, does the spark plug resemble one of their offerings? You’ll notice that the builder has set the cylinder head at 90 degrees different to standard.

Looks like it may be a home made plug

Minimag tend to sell the usual CM-6 and the smaller rimfire plugs

Check the spark is not jumping from lead to valve spring. This would not show if they remove the plug to see if it's sparking as the lead gets moved further away. Easy to see in a dark room.
