Little more can be said, but a visual symphony to ears and eyes.........

[close your eyes...... I suspect the engine of the full sized Sabino could sound similar to this model engine]

Derek  :wine1:
It does have a very similar sound, but I need to add the water sounds and the big whistle up top!

Thanks guys!!

I sent some pictures down to Mystic Seaport, they have asked me to bring it to their Antique Marine Engine Expo next month (mainly full size engines but some models too). Think I'll be heading there, and want to stop in and see the big warships at the Fall River museum along the way, have not been there since I was little, past time to tour it again. May not make it to Kinzer too, that overlaps, but might make both... At least should be able to get some pics of the model engine with the Sabino ship, that will be fun!

Chris, that is some magnificent work !
Congratulations on your dedication and work.
You mentioned you donated a set of full size drawings to Mystic Seaport, but will you offer your scaled drawings as well ?

When You built the ship model, did you go by the plans they had for sale ? or did you find them else ware ?
Thanks for any comments

Rich

Hi Rich,
I built the model of the ship from the plans Mystic sells, I don't see the engine plans I sent them for sale on their site. I'll check tonight if the scaled down version files will fit on posts here, or I can email you a copy. Thinking of doing a model of it?

Hi Dave, was great to meet you in person and yak for a while!  Just got home, pretty clear sailing on the roads, glad the AC was working this afternoon, it got toasty outside!

To Rich (and anyone else who may be interested in building a model of this engine - here is a copy of the plans for the model sized engine from the Sabino!  All I ask is that you post pictures of your build (and of course don't resell the plans, or I'll send my Ninja-Lawyer Attack Elves your way   :LittleDevil: )

For size reasons will be posting in a coupleof sets...

Just back from another trip to Maine, for the Heavy Metal event at the logging museum. Great day driving the steam Lombard hauler around (took turns steering and running the throttle), as well as the two gas poweded Lombard trucks. Took along the Sabino model to show them as well. Fantastic day out! Then as mentioned earlier stopped by Dave's house on the way home to show him the model (he helped out along the way answering LOTS of my questions on how it was set up and run on the real ship). He also very kindly gave me a set of copies of the plans for the giant four-cylinder triple expansion engine from the battleship Ohio (BB-12, there were later ones with same name too). Those plans will keep my busy for quite a while drawing it up in Fusion, and next winter/spring at least building a model of it!
Here are links to the photos/video that Herb from the museum posted:
