I made one years ago, not as fancy but it does work within limits. The left hand bushing is a slip fit in the spindle bore. The right end has a shoulder that bottoms on the end of the spindle and the small tapered piece causes the split mandrel to expand when tightened.

Yes   and ostensibly, you can fit the end with what ever fitted stop you need for the job at hand.....
