High Strength Aluminium supplier in UK

I am having difficulties in finding a supplier of high strength aluminium alloy plate, in the UK.

I am trying to locate some 7075 T6 or 2014 T6 grade, high strength aluminium alloy plate, from which to make a batch of con-rods for my Mercedes W165 engine. I am looking for a plate size 6mm x 100mm x 400 mm, however, alternative plate sizes could be considered, even 1/4" thick plate.  These alloys are normally associated with aerospace applications and the suppliers I have contacted are only interested is providing aircraft production quantities. Not much help to a model engineer.

Anyone know of a UK supplier who could help?

Not sure how practical or affordable it would be to slice up 70mm diameter round bar, most of the bar would go to waste.

Still need to find someone who can supply it in the smallish quantities I need.

Try cutting it the other way round  Along the bar not across it. Your diameter needs to be the width of the big end.

Could do!! then I would need 1.25 metres of 40mm diameter bar and to machine away 85% just to get to the flat stock.

Hello Bill,

The overall width of the conrods is about 35mm, length 70 mm. I want to make 16 conrods, plus a couple of spares.

A quick look on the CAD suggests I could maybe get 16 conrods out of a single 38 thick, 150mm diameter bar with a 3mm cutting allowance all round

Sounds interesting.

I assume a 'waterjet drop' is your name for a piece that's cut out of a larger slab.

M-machine who I use quite a lot have some flat sections which may be more economical than round bar.
