Another MEM Corliss wheezes to life
« on: May 08, 2022, 07:58:01 PM »
In my haste to see if it would run I neglected to notice I only had 3 bolts in the crosshead guide/cover.  I just hooked up some tubing to my blow gun and had at it.

It's pretty leaky with the missing bolts and no gaskets, but it runs.

Many thanks to all who posted their full builds and to the mods who made the design available.

Lots to do before it be displayed, but here it is:

The leaks just make it chuff like a much larger engine! Looks like it runs very well indeed, Congratulations!

Superb! That is a good looking engine and a really smooth and well running example of it.

Thanks everyone.  I tinkered with the timing today and got it to run much better. It's now in pieces for paint. I'll post some pics when it is back together.

Here it is painted. There are still some things to do though. A couple of SHCS need replacing with proper bolts and the Philips head bolts on the intake manifold need replacing with studs/nuts. There are mount points for 3 oilers and none are fitted yet.

That is a very pretty engine and very well made. Nice job - I really like the paint scheme and presentation on the base as well. Terrific!

You gentlemen are too kind.

I'll now crawl back under my rock and start on a portable engine just as soon as I can get to measure the prototype (about 150 miles from here).

I don't want to nit pick but didn't most stationary engines rotate in the opposite direction?  How easy is it to reverse the timing?

Good point.  I suppose changing the position of the eccentric would do the trick. I may try that when I am done changing out bolts and such for a better appearance.
