Hey Don 1966 Miter Gear Spreadsheet
« on: April 20, 2022, 01:37:34 AM »
I'm attempting my first set of miter gears. Don, thank you so much for taking time to create these gear calculation spreadsheets they have been very helpful. I have a question about the bevel gear spreadsheet. In cell R6 is the word (Answer). Is this referring to the formula in cell S8?

On Don's spreadsheet you enter values in the Yellow boxes. The sheet shows two sets of information: the gear cutting calculations on the left and the dividing head plate calculations on the right.

On the right hand side of the spreadsheet is the box shown below. This is the chart that tells you how to use your dividing head to get the number of divisions for the gear you want to cut. The "answer" is read off the line that corresponds to the number of holes you are using in your division plate.

The first chart below is for a 60 tooth wheel. As the myford dividing head is a 60:1 dividing head you do not have to use the plates to achieve this division, so all of the lines below "answer" are shown.

The second chart shows a 48 tooth wheel. It now shows you that only 2 division plates will give you a 48 division and the number of holes you need to use each time you rotate the head.
