1912 Engine Design and Testing Thesis

For those who might like a little light engineering reading, I came across this while browsing the vintagemachinery.org website. It's a thesis submitted in 1912 for the author's Mechanical Engineering degree. In it he discusses the design parameters and choices for a 1HP, hit and miss, 4 stroke engine. It includes a very concise and readable discussion of the logic and calculations involved in the design process, followed by a description of various tests carried out on the running engine. Contrary to what some might expect for a paper like this, it is neither overly long nor overly dense. Much in it would be directly applicable to our model engine designs as well.

In fact, it might actually be fun to use this paper to as the basis to design a model of his "Hustler" engine.

Cool paper indeed. To recreate the graphs you will need to make a miniature Prony brake.
