Stuart No. 1
« on: March 26, 2022, 06:34:51 PM »
Hi there,

my first set of castings was the Stuart No 1.
It was built in 2003 and unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the making.

The feed pump is a construction of mine. It is constructed from brass parts and silver solder.
The oil pump was built according to a blueprint.

Another picture and a video First run under steam.

(At  that time I thought I needed gloves for the operation. ) 🤭

Love that oil pump. You can never have too many moving parts to watch in motion!

Wow,

A great job and running on steam rather than compressed air!

Well done on a lovely looking engine...

Regards

Hi guys,

thanks for the kind words.

The oil pump needs a longer lever. The ratchet wheel is too coarse.

Very nice.  I think that the older No.1 is a very interesting and appealing engine.

Hello Willie,

Thanks.

I call it a rotary slide valve.
I saw the inspiration for this valve on steam engines in steamships. And there are old pictures where such a valve is installed. I think it's a valve for quick maneuvers on not so big steamships.

Do you have a blueprint for this valve?

Unfortunately I don't have a blueprint for it. I could take it apart and take photos. Maybe tell you the most important dimensions. Would that help you?
