Stuart Beam
« on: March 18, 2022, 06:15:48 PM »
Hi there,

I would like to present some of my Stuart steam engines here.
It's been a few years since it was built and I must confess that I used the metric screws.
The Beam was built in 2005. I changed a few parts. The feed pump was my idea. I believe the green color is not the original stuart green. The tiles are painted on an aluminum plate. Building this machine from castings was fun.

Greetings Michael

Very nice Stuart Beam, Michael!  I like the additions you've made to the basic engine.  Lots of nice detail.

Thanks for showing us the photos of your very nice beam engine.  The extra detailing, and the unusual governor and linkage to the control valve have added a lot to the interest , and produced a very handsome model.  Dave

Hello Willy,

I can only name two providers here from Germany. At that time I bought my checker plate in a model shop here in town. Unfortunately closed now.

Hi Michael, you have done a beautiful job of that engine.  I particularly like the platform feature around the Governor.  It’s an unusual and very attractive presentation, makes the Governor more of a feature than just another detail. I presume the pump is actually pumping water.  Do you know if it’s intended to be a boiler fed pump or a more general water service pump?

The more I learn, the more I find that I still have to learn!

Hello MJM460,

thanks for the praise.
The pump works and could fill a kettle with water.
But since the machine only runs on compressed air, the water circulates. This is the black container.

I like that modified Watts linkage.  It doesn’t seem like any two Stuart Beam Engines are the same.  Beautiful engine.
