9x20 Lathe Belt
« on: March 15, 2022, 01:45:36 PM »
My HF 9x20 lathe likes to break the small belt at the worst possible time.  With no direct replacement locally available, I came up with a different source.  A trip to the local auto parts store yielded this. The length was a bit hard to match exactly.  Simply cut the belt, following the grooves molded into the belt. I only get 2 pieces to use, but it's 2 for about 6 bucks. They seem to hold up a lot better than the ones I get from flea bay.  Hoping this is helpful for someone.

The correct name for stock factory belt is Gates Polly flex 5M (5mm wide). The bigger machines use a 7M (7mm wide) but if your like me a normal Z series belt works just fine in place of the 7M.

The correct size of the belt depends on the installed engine.
5M x 710 to 5M x 730 has already been installed in the machines.
The Emco Compakt 8 prototype machine had a 5M x 690 belt.

My HF used a 5M710. The KBC takes a 5M730 but the previous owner changed the motor so I'm not 100% sure if that is what it used new.
