Snow tandem double acting I.C. engine
« on: December 15, 2021, 07:22:21 PM »
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I purchased a copy of the book, Build the Snow, from Village Press. In going through the drawings it requires 4 lip seals with a part number of NOK AC8054 -EOS. It also gives references to several companies that apparently handle these seals. I have spent the greater part of the morning trying to find these seals. Needless to say without much luck.
My request is for those who have built the Snow or otherwise know where these seals can be found.
I live in Ohio in the U.S. and have 2 companies, Mcmaster-Carr and Grainger who usually have almost everything needed but they don't have them either. They have the seals for the .312 shaft diameter but the O.D. is too large.
Thanks,
gbritnell

Hi George,
Only ones I see are without the 'S' on the end:
https://www.bestpartsonline.com/snow-engine-seal-5-16-x-9-16-x-1-8-and-039-ref-ac8054-e0?search=AC8054-E0&description=true
That one even says 'snow engine seal'.
If thats not it, I can ask my contact at Village Press.
Chris

Another source that I have used many times,

Great if you know the dimensions you need, they carry a big variety of styles. I think the ones you are looking for are the SC type lip seals.

I built one of those and I ended up using standard O rings and they seemed to work just fine  I never ran it for very long and I no longer have the engine.

Hi George,
as already mentioned S/S  does offer these lip seals.
They are still in business. I have been in contact with Roy Sholl there last week.
He is very helpful.
Only for information, I have modified these Snow design to metric dimensions there.
A FPM lip seal, Type B, in 8x14x4 mm is uses by Volkswagen and produced by company Elring, part number 758.876.
These dimensions are very close to the original design.
For me it was very helpful to use a rod/shaft there with metric dimensions.
Kind Regards
Achim

Chris, George, ,the here offered lip seal is made by NBR as material, I am not sure if this is the best choice.
FPM may be is a better way to go.
The one S/S offers is Viton, FPM too.
My 2 cent only.
Kind Regards
Achim
