Running out of excuses
« on: November 16, 2021, 07:17:44 PM »
After a very long wait, the Syil X7 VMC finally arrived. I'm now out of excuses for not having started steam engine production, at least in terms of tools available. However I've had to go and find a full-time job and still keep the laser cutting business ticking over, so very little time for new projects at the moment.

Short video of the shop in it's current state. 1kW fiber laser hiding behind the sheet metal, X7 WMC and Mazak QT6 lathe.

Lovely amount of space + nice big machines .... one could easily get jealous with Tool Envy  ;)

I hope you find time to set it all up and enjoy them

Lack of space is actually a big issue. I spend too much time moving steel sheets for the laser around. Manual lathes and mill, bandsaw etc. are in another workshop. It would be nice to have it all under one roof.

The fiber laser has been in operation for 3 years now. I've been self-employed since late 2019, but business has been so bad in 2021 I had to go and find a job instead. Lathe has been sitting idle for a year before I finally got around to pouring a new concrete floor for it and the VMC to stand on.
