What is it like for one off components? do the levers give enough feel that you could work with a dti on the slides and hit a dimension?

Now this thread has me confused - easily done these days I'd admit - on the gender convention re workshop machines. Now ships, I know, are always a very female she, as are cars. But what is the convention on lathes? And on milling machines?

Thanks Guys The headstock on this Schaublin requires the belt to feed from above or to the rear (other headstocks are available which feed from below). It would be possible to mount the motor slightly below as the Cowells Lathe does but.............................
