Those alligator ones are great for reaching into small places, I got ones years ago for working on ship model rigging.

or for building ships in a bottle.

Had another PILAFBS incident this afternoon - dropped a 2-56 x 3/8" screw, it bounced off my right knee, left lower leg, and landed IN my right shoe, slid down between the shoe and sock!  Couldn't do that if I tried.

As a corollary to the drop cloth.  Don't raise the part any higher off the cloth than it needs to be.   And never over the floor...easier said than done....
