What kind of tool post do you have? The Aloris knurling tools work pretty well.

Aloris AXA clone.    I'm looking for a scissor style knurl...

I think I have the clone knurling head for this thing....but it could be of ....dubious ...quality....

I made the Basic Hemingway Knurling Tool some years ago, it worked well and is straight forward to make the design lets you adapt the tool to suit whatever tool post your lathe has, a friend in Canada now has the tool.

I, also, have made one. It is well designed and straightforward to make and works fine on my Myford.

Make sure you choose the Hemmingway Sensitive Knurling tool. It is a copy of the Marlco which is a very nice Knurling tool  ;)

Thank you Mike and Ron.   I'm leaning toward a basic unit...I don't do a lot of complex knurling...The odd knob and handle...but my examples are lacking that's for sure...and the tool isn't helping me at all....

I wouldn't be without the fine feed handle on the back of my Marlco it makes knurling a pleasure ... Just saying  ;)

With shipping its nearly $90.  ....I can get a lot of knurler for that.....I'm going to keep looking...unless someone has a set of plans they can sell/share.

If I built one it would be this. I'm not sure if his plans are still available, they were available on Homemadetools.net. He doesn't seem to be posting as much though. You might be able to reverse engineer by eye.

Hi Dave,
I built a cut knurling tool a couple of years ago. Design was by one of the guys on Home Model Machinist site, works great!  Brought the knurls from eBay, hasn’t had a lot of use so far it has cut great, I have 4 heads with different knurls for it, quick to change. Just another option.

Cheers Kerrin

But it won't be anything like as nice as a Marlco  ::)

I think these are all you need to make one  ;)

I have got a Marlco knurler, with arms a bit longer than Jo's example, and as Jo says, it does work superbly.  Annoyingly though, for me, I have 10 or so assorted pairs of knurls, which fit a more conventional Jones and Shipman scissor type knurler that has also been useful, but the knurls don't fit the Marlco. So only got two? pairs for the Marlco.   It seems to need their own spec, thinner and different pin dia., and I haven't found them at ordinary prices.  Of course, making one's own version obviates this nuisance straight away.   Dave
