It's just going to take a lot longer and need a lot of pressure with that setup Mike!      

With my previous mill, which had reversable spindle, I turned a number of drills and endmills a lovely blue colour before realizing it was turning the wrong way.....  

(and before anyone gets too clever, no, not on the same day!  )

I hate too admit it, but I put a band saw blade on the wrong way once. Didn't realize till it won't cut.

WOW!! I made a heap of silly things in the shed like running a drill backwards and cursing because it won't cut but not done that yet. Doesn't mean I wont but not yet. You're a real pioneer in this field Mike.

I think a lot of us have run a lathe backwards and wondered why it wouldn't cut. While still quite inexperienced (honest!) I managed to do a fair bit of machining in reverse... wondering why everything was getting red hot and progress was incredibly slow....

That's one of those undrills that you use to undrill holes that are in the wrong place...

To quote from my flying instructor's mantra:

Me? My entire career has been an endless succession of learning opportunities...

I usually try to drill holes in masonary with the ordinary portable electric running backwards. It is difficult enough when the drill is rotating the right direction.

I've done worse...machined a fixture the other day here at work, clamping a 4" pipe in a vise rather than toe clamping it down securely (bah, that will take too long = famous last words).  0.5 inch carbide endmill went bang when the part slipped up out of the vise jaws.  Luckily nothing injured other than the idiot engineer's pride.

Working in my workshop late one evening and getting more frustrated at not getting things right I threw my welding hammer down on the bench. It bounced and the pointy end punctured a small disposable gas bottle. I stopped and went indoors. Later, asleep in bed a pneumatic road breaker started up outside my bedroom window. I went down to see the gas board digging up my neighbours drive to look for the gas leak he reported earlier. I didn't have the nerve to tell them what had happened.

I have to own up to wondering why my chain saw was not cutting very well the other day with its newly sharpened chain, when I put the chain back on the right way round the saw cut just like a real one..................

Chainsaw story - a neighbour brought one by my workshop, he bought it at a yard sale after seeing it run. When he went to use it, he couldn't start it.  I get out my Sherlock Holmes pipe and magnifying glass and begin a high level inspection. Spark, yep. Compression, yep. Fuel - oopsy.

He had filled the gas tank with chain oil and the chain oil tank with 2 stroke gas / oil mix. Was a heck of a job to get all that sticky red goop out of the fuel system. I didn't do the Nicholas Cage style flaming chain stunt though, I did the boring approach and put oil back in the chain oil tank.

After gentle chastisement re the error of his ways  he's been getting along great with it and still has both legs. (for now)

One other event that comes to mind was a dumb one I did working on an old Suzuki Sidekick car we had. I was patching rust holes with sheetmetal, pop rivets and roofing tar (automotive breakfast of champions in road salt zones). There I was, drilling up through the inner fender tub, seemed to be taking a while.....then battery acid started pouring down the drill bit!  Yep, I hit a gusher, drilled right into the bottom of the battery! Still can't believe I did that! (and the good wife reminds me about it whenever I have a drill in my hand!)

I find that sort of disc is really slow cutting steel......and hard to read when spinning

My EMCO VMC CNC mill is over thirty years old, I have been using it most days for the last ten years.

Until today, the table was completely unmarked and pristine.

That was until today
I am sure I pressed the 'Tool touch-off button" to zero the tool height The mill was not so sure and gouged this hole in the table.  Dont you just love it when the computer decides it knows best





For now, I have filled the hole with JB Weld epoxy and will file it smooth to the table surface when it has fully cured for a couple of days

If such horrors happen I use a piece of Sellotape over the top and when it is almost dry use a razor blade to trim it level with the bed

Sellotape and a heavy weight attached as per your instructions. 

I will have to use a brand new Stanley knife (box cutter) blade as my three blade Gillette razor blades wont 'cut it', as they say.

The downside to teaching yourself G-codes on a brand new, $30K CNC Bridgeport is the 1/4 inch hole neatly, if noisily, drilled into the the shiny new table. And having to re-tram the head after calming down (at least it was bought with someone else's money).
