Model differential
« on: April 26, 2021, 10:39:12 AM »
I've completed the parts for a differential for a 1/12 scale gearbox I'm making.

Here it is assembled next to a penny.

The central pin will be cut down so it's flush with the cage and slotted for a screwdriver. This is the first time I have been able to test the bevel gears I made for this and I'm very happy. Everything meshes smoothly.

Excellent - thatís a very fine collection of parts. Looks like you accidentally posted the same pic twice - the assembly doesnít show.

Forging ahead regardless.

Very neat, very tidy, very impressive! If that's going into a gearbox, what's the gearbox going into?

The gears are Mod 0.3 and the gearbox is a Hewland FG400 to mate with a Ford Cosworth DFV V8.

Funnily enough, gear cutting with the right cutters and a dividing head is not difficult. It gets interesting when you don't have the right kit and you have to grind up a single point cutter which matches the mating gear...

Mod 0.3, that is pretty small; much smaller than the 0.5M gears I can cut, congratulations !

Nice, but where did you get the giant penny? I've seen U.S. pennies that size from time to time but never one with the queen on it.

Seriously, that is a really nice set of gears.
