Soya Wax
« on: April 08, 2021, 11:38:09 AM »
I've just been given a big block of soya wax and have no idea of what it could be used for other than making candles  :noidea:

Any one any other suggestions before I throw it in the bin?

Could it be used as Machinable wax to test a cutting setup?

Jo,

Don't think it has many uses other than slow burning candles.

You could try your hand a sculpture, it looks a bit like soapstone.

May sound silly Jo...

But try Google/looking for uses of Bees Wax.........if the Soya wax block is of similar hardness at room temperature .......could be substituted for the Bees wax

During my years with Naval Ordnance employment, plugging the female hex of socket headed cap screws with 'Gun Slushing' which was a 'needeble' mix of Bees Wax + a little petroleum oil.......this was the preferred final task prior painting on yes.......gun mount and Missile Launcher hydraulic systems

Make one of these and light it then tell Sirus he's going to burn next unless he hands over some castings. :LittleDevil:

Beeswax is also used by ship modelers to wax the thread used in rigging, to lay down the stray fibers sticking out from the thread. Thread is pulled across a corner, letting it slice in, to give it a light layer of the wax. Also makes knots stay in place without undoing themselves.

Plus it makes the bees shiny!

I have plenty of bees Wax as I keep bees

This block of Soya wax was given to me to see if I could find a use for it ( I have a rule say yes to anything offered and then decide if it is useful afterwards. While I have acquired a fair bit of  :censored:  I have also been given some very nice stuff which if it is boxes or castings normally gets pinched  :pinkelephant:  )

At the moment it looks like this could shortly be a feature in the bottom of my bin
