Mike's Completed PM Research #1 Drilling Engine
« on: March 13, 2021, 12:30:08 AM »
I took a few pix of my just completed PMR Drilling Engine.  I mounted it on a wooden base that my brother made for me.  Its from walnut sawn and milled from trees on the farm where we grew up.

For paint, I just sprayed it with Rustoleum Filler Primer, Satin Black, and Satin Hunter Green.  My wife approves of the color scheme and in fact suggested it, so for sure I'm not changing it!!  :)

I tried to take some good quality pix with my DSLR rather than my phone and the video is from my DSLR also.   In the video you'll see it running quite slowly, probably on about 2 psi.  In any case, I'm happy with and I'm starting to work on my next project already!

I no particular order are the pix:

And finally, here the video of the engine running in its final configuration.

Enjoy!

Very nice!  The base and plaque really set it off nicely!
And runs beautifully!

Very nice.  I like the green paint.

It runs so well, too.

Congratulations, and thank you for posting.

Great paint and finish and a very nice runner too - I'm surprised that it runs this fast on such a small air pressure

Lovely job, I think this engine looks lots better with the hex head bolts rather than the slotted screws the PM engines come with normally. The colour scheme is neat too

Yes, I agree on the hex head bolts vs the slotted screws originally supplied by PMR.  Big machinery never used slotted screws for any large fasteners and to get the proper look, IMO you really have to use the properly scaled fasteners.  I've been buying the scale model fasteners from Godshall Custom Machining who evidently took over the scale fastener business from American Model Engineering Supply.  They've been excellent to deal with.

The color scheme was suggest by my wife, who has an excellent eye for color.  I originally was going to go with all green, but she suggested the black base frame, and I think it looks really good.  And I think the black is very functional in a sense as it will hide oil stains from any dripping!   I might try a flat black vs a the satin black next time as I do think it looks a bit shiny for my taste.

And thanks very much for taking a look and for your thoughtful comments!
