Vintage Taig Micro Lathe 4500
« on: December 21, 2023, 09:13:50 PM »
An estate sale find.   Not my cup of tea but it was rusty, dusty and had a pile of stuff on it, so I picked it up for cheap.   Cleaned up pretty nice and has the milling attachment with it.   Also an assortment of collets.   3 jaw and 4 jaw just had surface rust.  Everything needed disassembly and lubrication.   Motor runs fine.   Anyway it was just a quick project without much risk.    Now I am trying to figure out a price to sell it to someone who can use it.   Prefer local sale.    I don't usually deal with these little guys and have no idea what they go for.   Any ideas?

In 2019 I paid just over $550 (after 10% discount from list) for most of what is shown in your pictures, all brand new. I didn't need to buy a motor at that time, and I didn't buy the 3-jaw, but did buy the top slide compound attachment ($54). I can't help you on what to ask for that kit, but maybe this will help you in indicating the upper bound.
Regards,
Ron

the taigs are still available. The basic  lathe setup is still something like 550 you can get er heads and 5c heads  for like 1100 . the miil attachment and the 4 jaw accessories.
I think they  are either loved or hatted kind of like the unimats. capable little machines as long as you do not work them beyond there design limits.

Here's the current price list from Carter Tools - the guy who distributes Taig in the NW part of the country.  So you can look and see the current pricing for the unit & parts.

https://www.cartertools.com/price.html

I had a Taig lathe and mill for many years and did a lot of work on them.  Very capable machines much like the Sherline.  Other than it's just a small machine, I really missed the ability to single point threads.  But a great little machine for its size and price!

Thanks.   I had no idea so much was available currently.   Nice reference for potential buyer.
