Hi, I m interested in model ic engines but have not much experience in their construction. I have a small lathe and milling machine plus various other tools and would like some advice on a starter project. The hit and miss engines look very nice but think they maybe beyond my capabilities at the moment so am thinking of starting off with a single cylinder aero engine as I also fly model aircraft. Any advice on a starter project would be welcome.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
A huge amount of experience here and only too willing to help and advise.
Cant really advise myself as i too am a novice building ic engines but i can point you to an interesting youtube series by Andrew Whale who is just ending a 22 part series on the Farm Boy hit and miss model engine. Give you a good indication of the amount of work to build an engine.

Hi Steve,
Welcome to MEM.
There's a lot of IC experience on this forum, but I'm more of a steam guy.  I'm sure they will chime in shortly.

Are you looking for an engine to do from a casting? Or from bar stock?

I would recommend the Upshur Farm Engine.
This was my first engine - built in 1995.
All bar stock - so no castings to mess up.
