Howell V 4
« on: January 03, 2021, 06:52:57 AM »
After four years of enjoyment, challenges and frustration my Howell V 4 is complete and running.
This project has exceeded the demands of all my previous engines.  I found if one followed the well presented details of Jerry Howell it all came together.
Deviate at your own risk.   I admit to scouring the forum for posts and words of wisdom relating to the project and any other web gems.
In entering my 84 year I think that taking on a long term project may be a bit optimistic.  However one never knows.

Best wishes

Many thanks for your comments.
The Howell v 4 is made from bar stock, no castings required.  For details etc, go to:-    J.E. Howell Model Engine Plans.
He published a wide range of engine plans.   They are very well detailed.

I will put up a video shortly once having mastered the technology.

Thank you.

Many thanks for your responses to my Howell V4.
Video could be a while coming, as during running the engine tightened up which lead to the finding of the rear cylinders crank pin moving slightly forward and turning slightly causing interference with the centre main housing.    Result was a complete strip down due to alloy swarf etc.
Problem has been rectified, engine rebuilt.
Decided a bit of a break was needed from the stress of 4 cylinders so am currently cutting metal on a Naylon Viper 2.5cc diesel as a bit of light relief
and ongoing hobby involvement.
