If you can, add an extra header tank (reservoir) above the radiator. This will provide a bigger volume of coolant (this is quite important) and also a little extra pressure to ensure the pump does not run dry or try to pump air.

Hi Mike,
this will be the Radiator for the Holt.
Just have to tune it a little bit. Its a cheap cinese PC watercooling radiator.
A similar but bigger one i used for the Bugatti

Cheers

Hi guys,
after some problems with the ignition i went back to chip making.
I made the holder for the ventilator/blower and a friend printed me a shroud from carbon reenforced material.
Came out realy nice. Next piece will be the vent.
Still have to build a nice fuel tank and then i will  finish  this project.

Greetings

Hi here is a little update.
The project is near completing. The cooling system is now fully working. Last part was the ventilator.

Still have to make a fueltank and maybe build another carb. i am not realy satisfied with that one.
Another issue is the spilling of oil out of the exhaust. I believe it is still to much oil in the engine.
I removed a sideplate and fitted a window to inspect the level.

A very nice runner, congratulations! Getting better with each refinement.
I noticed in #183 you mentioned ignition problems & the latest video has what looks like a bigger auto? coil. I guess you replaced the Stirling CDI module? Can you elaborate on what kinds of issues you experienced & what you replaced it with. I assume the hall sensor & that aspect remains the same? How are your shop made spark plugs holding up? Maybe I missed but what kind of material did you use for the insulator?

Even though my engine has great compression it still puffs a little oil from the exhaust.  I never played with the oil level. My rods just dip into the oil about 1.5 mm (.060 inch)

Excellent result, Congratulations!

My daughter lives not too far from Stockton, California, which is where the Holt Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1892.

Thanks. I had problems with frying the hallsensors. After some tweaking the distance between the sensor and the triggerwhell and also using some hot glue on the sensor it workes now. I still have to try the cdi again. At the moment i run it with a transistor-Type DIY ignition with an automotive coil.
A little big but works. Till now the shop made plugs work fine. Insulator material is CORIAN

Did your engine just make some smoke puffs or did it spill out soot? At the end of the video some of the black soot points are vissible on the exhaust.

so i made some progress on the spilling.
I reduced the oil level so that the crank journal just slightly hit the oil like George mentioned.

Hope this enough lubrication.

Michael
