A quick silencer
« on: December 13, 2020, 08:11:12 PM »
Since I made the 3cc vertical engine it just had a short exhaust stub and was quite loud. I finally got round to making a silencer based on a half length version of the one used on the twin. The volume is around 4.5cc, so 1.5 times the cylinder volume, the same as on the twin. I don't know if this is a sensible proportion but it seems to work. The two baffles are installed equally spaced with the cutouts opposite. The bend was made in the same way as for the twin, annealed, bent around my old Girling pipe former and then squeezed back to shape in the vice.
It has certainly reduced the high frequency crackle  :)

Best regards
