It looks a lot more like a piece of Victorian Art, than an engine - impressive  :praise2:

Please keep the updates comming

Very neatly done, Dave!
You have a lot of cool toys to play with - both in your home shop AND at work :)

Bear, Gary, Per, & Kim, thanks for the nice comments and taking time to stop by to check out my progress.
Only one assembly left to make, the displacer piston, then maybe with some luck it will run.

Hi Dave,

Your CNC Lathe turns out those ball ends much faster than I can  ::)

That is a very long (flexible ?) displacer rod  :o

I built the Myfordboy engine a few years ago and it runs very well. I machined an aluminum base out of aluminum plate, to match the original. You could buy the real Essex either way.  Brad Smith

No it is still waiting for me to get back to it. When I did the initial construction I used a piece of brass tubing that I had on hand, while the engine does have pretty good compression I was never able to get it to run, almost but not quite.
I ordered a piece of SS tubing and I need to fit it to the engine and try again. There have just been too many other distractions keeping me away from it. Although the original engines use brass it just seems to conduct to much heat into the cold end, I'm hoping that the SS will help alleviate this problem.
I will make an effort to try to finish it this winter.

Thanks Dave. I'm very interested in this engine configuration, and you've done a masterful job of machining it.

Hi Everyone,

I took some time during the holiday break to work on the Essex. I had the stainless tube sitting around for the transfer tube for quite a while, so decided it was time to do something with it.
There really wasn't much to it except to trim it to length and polish it up. I did relive the inside bore 1" each way from center. I took it down so the wall thickness of the tube is .025"
After reassembling the the engine with the new transfer tube it was time to give it another try, I was pleased that it took right off after a minute or so warm up.

So now I need to decide weather to make a wood or aluminum base for it, I guess it also needs a paint job too.

Attached is a short video of it running, thanks for checking in.

Runs nicely Dave, what sort of bases did the originals come with if any?
