Short Video, making hex head bolts from socket head cap screws

Pretty self explanatory.  I quick and dirty way to grind flats on a socket head cap screw turning it into a hex head bolt.  No special equipment required, just a small machinist vice, an Allen wrench and a belt grinder or bench grinder with a suitable tool rest.

I missed this also when it was first posted Chuck. Seems that with a simple miter fence and a stop, it could be done both quickly and repetitively  with consistent results, though your freehand version looks pretty good too.

Do the Canadians make a Robertson [ie, square drive] version of the Allen head machine screw?  If so, square head screws would be a doodle.

Of course, one could make a block with the required number of sides, drilled and tapped for the desired thread.  Hole the screw in it with a lock nut, press block against improvised fence and there you go... miniature pentagonal head screws for your miniature fire plug.
