« on: May 21, 2014, 01:55:49 PM »
Greetings from  the west side of London My name is Nigel  a .... mature returnee to model engineering. I came across this group by accident and have lurked in the shadows for a While.
My interests are 2mm Fine scale model railways ( at the moment)  I have just been give a fairly old and incomplete lathe of the cowells type does not need much ,  A motor ( i have an old singer sewing machine that's earmarked)  , a chuck  !! and a tool holder  ohhhh and some instructions  would help lol
Moving forward  you will probably get a lot od "silly" questions from me so please be patient
Regards Nigel  AKA ratchap

Welcome back to model engineering Nigel, and also welcome to MEM. If you have been lurking a while you will probably have come across some of Jo's (and others) posts on Cowells so I feel sure you can get some good advice on that front !!

 :hi: Nigel,

So is it a Perris or one of the earlier Cowells brethren you have? I suspect the singer moter is going to run too fast/not really be powerful enough  :-\.

I never heard of 2mm scale model railways, so I found this:
http://www.2mm.org.uk/

To get an idea of the size of the models, I found this video among many others:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soUSVRx9DRM" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soUSVRx9DRM</a>

Amazing detail at such small size. Do you have any pictures of your 2mm models?

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
