Scored a nice machine vice
« on: April 13, 2014, 07:15:27 PM »
Scored a nice machine vice last week.
After some cleaning up it looks quite nice now.
This one will co under the milling machine for “small”work.
It has a clamping wide off 100mm.

I also scored a barely used Glacern at Cabin Fever

from fellow MEM member, SShire.  I moved up from an inexpensive import, Stan moved up to a Kurt.

Cheers,
Phil

Jo, those type off vices where always to expensive for me.
Was lucky this time.
It’s a precision vice with pull-down jaws.
I have four off the precision tool vice without spindle as shown in the picture.
Those are not bad but this vice works a lot quicker.
Phil your vice is a nice one to.

I've owned a Kurt 675...and I own a Glacern 440.....Nothing wrong at all with a Glacern 440.

Just as good as a Kurt.. in Every way.

Not to highjack your thread, but I talked to LittleMachineshop about the defective manufacture of their little precision vise at CF, and they said they would exchange parts for me after CF, but now the Boss said "sorry, nothing he would do". I'm disappointed in them.
So, vices remain a problem unless you spring for the good ones.

Jeroen, I have no idea what brand it is.
I am surging for it.
A friend of me has the same type off clamp ( a lot bigger) in his workshop.
Maybe he can tell me what brand it is.

Very nice looking vice Tjark. Abwood would be my choice if I could get one in good condition at the right price. I had one years ago but let it go with the mill. Abwood were still trading when I had it as they kindly supplied a new handle for it.

Jeroen, you where right about the brand.
It’s the smallest Forza downward pressure machine vice.

Thats a nice quality Tjark. I have 2 of these vises, the 125mm versions. You can slightly loosen the jaws, they are locked by 2 screws each. If you do this you are able to tap the workpiece onto a set of parallels easily. Keep tapping while thightening the vise, works perfect. I had my jaws tight up in the beginning and it would slightly tilt the workpiece when tightening the vise, not able to get the workpiece  fixed on the parallels. i am sure you will enjoy your new toy!
