The good news is - we are now (somewhat unexpectedly) migrated onto our new server, which we expect to be a temporary home, for as long as it takes to find a new hosting company with less problems than our previous hosts...
The bad news is, well, very bad. What finally triggered this emergency migration is the total loss of the database over at the main site. I have no idea, nor - apparently - does the hosting company, how the database (and some key forum files) have come to be deleted. Our hosts seem unwilling to even attempt to find out, their best offer has been to suggest we pay for additional backups.....starting from now. If anyone's seen that horse, please let them know. The stable door is now firmly bolted.
So.... the bad news is we're having to fall back on the database backup I took 10 days ago, on January 10th. ALL posts since that time, until now, have, sadly, been irretrievably lost. For that I sincerely and humbly apologise. Had I seen the original migration through, we wouldn't be here now, we'd have just moved (on the other hand, I would probably still be sat in a hotel in Beijing cursing the ultra-slow internet!).
It seems unlikely, but IF our former hosting company manage, by some miracle that they've not told us about, manage to pull a more recent copy of the database out of their backsides, then I'll do my best to merge it with this one, causing as little disruption as possible.
New Users: If you registered between 10th and 19th January, we will have no record of your user name or password, or any posts you might have made. Sincere apologies, all I can ask you to do is re-register.
So, again, I apologise to everyone for the issues. This WILL be the last time.... because I'll be taking regular backups while the forum is on my server, and whoever we host with will, I'm sure, be keen to offer such a service at a reasonable price!
Attachments: It appears (I haven't confirmed) that the attachments directory is actually still in one piece. If you uploaded a photo or document between 10th and 19th January, which you either don't have a local copy of, or you're in desperate need of, please drop me a PM through the forum system, and I'll see if I can find it for you. It won't be easy, the filenames are all encrypted, so you'll need to give me as much info as possible about it (file size and date/time uploaded would be epic).
E-mail: Although I believe we have already re-configured the server to not use our hosting company's email servers (which were routinely blocked due to spamming), it's possible that e-mail in and out may not be working yet. This will be rectified in the next few days. In the meantime, please do use the PM system if you need to contact an admin or moderator.
I'll leave this notice at the top of the forum for a few days, so hopefully everyone gets to see it. Once you've read it, please feel free to click the "-" button in the header to collapse it so it's not quite so in-your-face. Next week I'll move it to the bottom of the screen, a bit more out of the way.
Once again, my apologies for the problems and the loss of 10 days worth of posts. Hopefully, we won't be made to suffer this sort of rubbish again!
