Glad to report my success with first stirling engine, not finished yet but is a runner.

Very nice Perry and its running well. Is it your design or from someone's plans.
Bill
-
.
Very cool. I like it.! :)

Congratulation on the nice runner Perry!
Do you have some details about your engine? Maybe a build log? I'm sure we all would like to see more...
-
That's a nice looking and running engine Perry.
Jim
-
Very nice!
Once I move beyond simple machining projects, I am going to attempt a stirling engine for my first real engine project :)
-
Well done Peter. 8)

Brendon, I suggest you try something simple like a wobbler first. Then slowly work up to a Stirling engine which has a few more challenges ;)

Thank you for compliments, actually there is a build blog but was not updated properly, will do soon.
Here are others videos of running engine :

My first engine was a Stirling Engine. I read a bit about them in "Model Engineer",in 1990 I then designed and built a
V type GAMMA motor that worked, parts of it are still working as a small Ringbom motor that I built about 15 years ago.

Very nice, you must be proud :praise2: :praise2: :wine1:
-
Thank you Roger, I'm pleased with it, I was surprised to get it running immediately during first try.
Aluminum power piston seized very quickly but is replaced now with cast iron which works fine.
Next step will be static balancing.
Perry
-
Perry, with a motor built with the care that your one has been, I would be surprised if it didn't work straight off, only my first few were difficult to start, but once running were ok.

Looks like an air fan now :)
-
Nothing ever beats that buzz of your first engine running for the first time.
Mike
-
Very nice indeed Perry! Well done  Any chance of a short video?
Bill
-
Nice fan!! Vixen has it right. There is nothing like the first time you have an engine you built run under it's own power.---Brian
-
took some time, but Im having fun with my stirling :cartwheel:
enjoy the flight of the pegasus :)

Outstanding Perry!
Of course now you have to tell us all about Pegasus? I love the action!
Jim
-
That's beautiful, Perry! Not only a very nice engine but it's driving something wonderful..
Pete
-
That's great!
-
Pegasus is a neat kit from Artoy.
I modified it so it can be driven by my engine or by a brass crank.
total reduction is cca 1:14
Original wooden crankshaft was fine for what it was but not suitablele for my stirling as there was too much friction.
So it is a semi metal conversion now, running on 2 ballbearings with brass excenter driving the horse.
+ I attached it to a larger baseplate
is is relaxing to watch it running just from the heat of small tea candle.

dynamo was tested as well :

I know what I'll do Perry. When I get my P & W Hit and Miss engine finished and running, I'll hook it up to a Pegasus like yours. Only mine will look like its galloping! :naughty:
Jim

Sounds good Jim, go for it! :)
-
Looks great Perry :-)
Are the engine plans available online ?
-
Thanks for the videos Perry. Love the Pegasus animatron too!!
Bill
-
Hi Perry,
That's so cool! Picking my grandsons would love to see that...oh oh something to add to the list!
Cheers Kerrin

Looks great Perry :-)
Are the engine plans available online ?
Hello Gas_mantle no other plans than standard Moriya fan were used, design details are my ideas + it is still not fully finished yet.
Regards
Perry

Always nice to find something to drive with Stirling power. Like the Pegasus and fan flywheels come in handy too.
Dave
-
Thanks Dave, I'm already working on another fancy attachment device.

Newest workload for my stirling : 1940's Water fountain from Bing

Very cool Perry! Always nice to see engines doing something.

Agree. It really adds to the interest.
Nice!

Yet another accessory: a Marble machine from kit + small worm gearbox that I made for it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7kYti7gD1M
As next, I will make video of all the gadgets running together :)
-
All working together now at my "machinarium" :

-
That is way cool Perry. Well done! Love all the action!
Jim
-
Very nice Perry. That would make a fine display at a model engineering show as well!!
Bill
-
Thank you gentlemen for comments, indeed I was inspired by various displays at Echtdampfhallentreffen in Germany.
I have few more ideas for accessories, such as :
Dynamo, praxinoscope, influence machine and an old style 78rpm gramophone would be very cool, if I can get enough power to drive it.
Japan toy maker Gakken made a nice kit, unfortunately it seems to be sold out now.
So I keep on searching for one..
Some other ideas for more interesting accessories?
-
Marble race :) must ad more balls to eliminate gaps in "flow"

STIRLING powered gramophone :)
Pushing limits of little stirling further. This is first test with gakeen gramophone. Ultimate goal is to find enough power to play 10" 78rpm records with steel needle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA2GDCf2mpE
-
That little stirling is a workaholic Perry. Fun to see all you have it doing though.
Bill
-
Thanks Bill ! It is my first stirling and I can say it keeps on surprising me how well it performs.
-
With additional gearing, gramophone plays 10" shellac records @78rpm :

Delightful!
-
Perry, your little Stirling is a great runner, beeing quite a workorse

Thanks :)

New experiment came as a result of instant idea.. What about to hook my very first compressed air engine and to run it in reverse to compress air?
It works :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6OALpfcLuk
-
Very cool Perry!
I'm surprised the hot air engine has enough power to blow up the balloon.
Dave
-
That's really neat, must try it. Ihave used one motor to drive another to try the effect of refrigeration, managed to drop the temperature from +20*C to -20*C in 20 miniuts, I thought that wasn't too bad. For a compressor I might have to build something.
Ian S C
-
wow, all these animations are superb. Your engine is really powerful, congratulations...nice to return to the whole thread, and lot of ideas for animating a stand in a show !
the Pegasus is lovely, automata look to match perfectly with Stirling engine.
could you give us some details on the electrical generator ?
-
Thank you guys, yes I was surprised too to get this performance out of it. Ian, the cooling experiment is something I'd like to try too. My plan is to power my stirling with my Webster IC.
The dynamo is a Sanko electric motor from old audiotape player. When time permits, I'll machine proper stand/housing for it
-
So, will it defeat air balloon? ;)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaEhHQOblVY
-
USB Charger experiment this time :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ8zi3sZpkI
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrtuLr_O6ik
As next, I'll have to make proper housing for the dynamo.

Just some fun with various drive models

Looks like you get a lot of fun out of that engine :whoohoo:
-
I do enjoy seeing engines doing something. Nice stuff!
-
Thanks guys, yes I do enjoy this one a lot.. And still have quite a few new ideas what to do with it :naughty:
