Title: fabricating a fuel tank for a centaur gas engine
Post by: Frank Boyle on June 19, 2015, 11:49:18 PM
Hi all
I am in need of advice on any product that can be used to form gaskets in a fuel tank [petrol].There is a base plate screwed on top of this a3/4" plate milled compleatly leaving just enough outer rim to take the screws. The next 3/4" plate screwed to the one below and hollowed out 1/2"deep leaving enough outer rim as the previous one.The gaskets will be subjected to the fuel constantly.

I seal my screwed fuel lines with "liquid gasket" from Halfords and also use it for gaskets on the engines so should be fine for your tank.

Hi Jason
Thank you for your reply.Could you please name the brand of liquid gasket as the products that I checked out at Halfords didn't seem suitable.

Wellseal will do it for you and it has the advantage of not going hard like silicon sealants do. One tube should last a life time  ;)

Frank, I can't see the one I have on the Halfords website now but it was their own brand, bit like a blue silicon sealant.

Another thought is slow setting Araldite which I have used several times to seal a metal plate into the base casting of an engine much like the original Centaur design
