At the end of this day we have had some swarf hills under the mill table.
Today the first operations have been made.
Nibbling step by step and deeper and deeper into this lump of aluminium.

Excellent setup. It seems very sturdy for the carving to come.
I hope you don't need that milling machine for anything else for a while. I just had to dismantle a setup to make some more t-nuts :-(

gerrit

Thanks Gerrit, and yes it will be a longer journey.

Great idea on the swarf shield, I'm thinking I may make something like that for my mill.

Dave

Hi Dave, yes this little shield is very usefully.

I think if you can incorporate a small Kohnian groove into the bore in the rotary piston, then an even better controller characteristic would be possible. The valve then does not open as quickly. I always use graphite grease on the sealing material for steam. And I have had good experiences with Anti Size in the valve.

Hello Willie,

Here are a few pictures of the valve. Maybe that's enough for you to create your own design for such a valve. If I could master CAD drawing it would be easier to draw you a blueprint. But unfortunately I'm too stupid for that.

Wow! That's a busy main shaft there!  Lot's of gizmos going on.  And the thing on the far left in the picture will be sitting on top of it all, right? :)

That's going to be really neat looking for sure!

Kim
Yup! Thats the right hand rope drum, its engine is out of view to the left. This whole new assembly sits under that.

After some careful aligning and marking, then drilling/tapping the screw holes, here it is all test assembled. The center wall/bearing is just set in place, that one is next to position. This shows the full set of drum parts though, great family shot!

Woa - just as I thought - you had to bring the latest parts up to the same standard as the rest  :praise2:

I'm usually not bothered much about Nuts as long as they do their job, don't corrode or look really bad .... But I do get why it matters when you try to achive an exact replica of the original - so yes the last pic has the best match

Argh  :zap: - Yes that is annoying .... But you can usually still get Discrete Parts that will do the job just as well as the original ones today - though they might be in a 'Different Package' ....

I Hope the repair isn't expensive nor take long to fix ....
