Plus 1 for "cash on collection".  Plus anything I do have to send - on those very rare occasions - gets sent fully tracked and signed for, so proof of delivery.

Brian - when you said, a while earlier, that the engine was running on one cylinder, was that one cylinder firing unaided, or only while you were turning it over with your starter device?  If it was not/would not running unaided that would also be another indicator of low compression.

Gerrit, the trimming is not bad but I do sometimes struggle with adhesion. I have never tried the glue stick thing. Which one seems to work best?

I usually use high hold hairspray.

There are a lot of large pieces in this clock so I wouldn't want to do multiples of too many of them because they lifted.

Also be wary of being a seller on Fleabay: 99% of the time its ok but the "did not arrive" claim is sufficient for Ebay to give the buyer their money back if there is no tracking information. I always do cash on collection when I sell stuff on there  ;) .

Forgot to mention: Radio 4 "You and yours" have done a number of bits on scammers on social media sites.

That's a lot of fiddly trimming to do, will it not print without the rim?
I use a glue stick to encourage adhesion to bed. Once the bed cools down the print pops off the glass easily.

Many thanks for the replies. I think I will give Facebook a miss.

Hello Roger,

An ingenuous way to extend the shaft to compensate for the small size of your lathe. Excellent !!

Will there be an outboard bearing to support that long shaft?

Thank you Kim  :)  That's just red marked pen to keep the orientation until I make some permanent marks.

Due to my small machines I could not make a long enough crankshaft so now I need to add an extension to drive the water pump etc. As the crankshaft was in the lathe I turned a small radius on the webs to make it easier to fit into the crankcase. The extension will be in two parts, a sleeve and a sacrificial extension shaft. I chewed up the end of the crankshaft on my diesel trying to start it and expect similar problems with this engine so I shall make it replaceable. The starting dog is not keyed to the shaft, just clamped, to act as a mechanical fuse.

The end of the crankshaft was turned down to 8mm and a 12mm sleeve was drilled and reamed to fit. The sleeve was then broached for a 2mm key. It will be Loctited to the end of the crankshaft and the extension will use the same key but be held in place with a couple of grubscrews.
