Hello engine builders!
I need a source for clear PVC tubing. One is 1/16 X 1/8 and the other one is 5/32 X 1/4 inch. It's easy enough to find but most suppliers want to sell 50 foot cuts. I am putting the info in a set of drawings for a V4 engine. I would like to find someone who would sell by the foot or maybe 5 foot cuts. The actual length needed for the project is less than a foot. Sucks having to buy 50.
Also I need to source miniature rivets They only need to be about 1/8 long and a skank about .047 would be great. I saw some .032 shank but then a builder would have to drill 16 .035 holes in stainless steel and we all know how that will go. I have the fan parts made without the rivet holes. Anybody know of 1/8 X .047 's
Thanks in advance!!

Did you look at Scale Hardware. They have metric 1.2 mm SS rivets which should be .047".

Edit :hammerbash: wrote too soon. That was for Head size. closest is .039 or .055 for body.

No they had them. Did you see the pointed head? That one had a .047 shank. Tried to buy but the paypal option wouldn't let me checkout without a CC number. Wierd.

Steve,
Any way you can live with a 1/16" body? Microfasteners has 1/16 in aluminum, brass, and copper. They don't show any .047" though unfortunately, but a call to them might turn up something in the smaller size from one of their vendors.

I looked at there website but could not read the little drawing to make out the size. I wouldn't have a problem with 1/16 as long as the heads are small. If I had all the information I could draw one and see how they look.

Steve, I agree the drawings are poor. It looks like the copper ones are 1/8" head.

My local ACE hardware has been carrying 1/16 X 1/8 K&S tubing in the chain saw/string trimmer department for replacement of fuel primer lines. They cut off what ever I need and sell it by the foot. Hobby shops that still carry 1/2 A engines have it for 1/2 A fuel line, but they are getting rare any more. About $0.25 per foot as I recall.
All of it will get stiff with gasoline in it after a few months and have to be replaced occasionally. Don't try to use silicon tubing with gasoline. It swells up quickly.

Thanks Bill!
I just ordered. Rivets are on the way!
How about short cuts of tubing?

Can''t help much with the tubing...I think Gail has the best option...the local hobby shop if you have one close.

I was refering to the clear tubing used for fuel line and radiator hose. Clear PVC tubing. I am going to include the source in a set of plans so i was hoping for a source with an online catalog.
You can see the coolant lines on the Peewee. Some say that type of tubing is not good for this use but it has been on there for 4 years and still good. Fuel lines I change every year.

Closest thing I see online is McMaster. They show 1/16" x 1/8" but in the other size you mention the closest is 5/32" x 7/32". Both are available in 25 foot lengths but at reasonable prices.
Here is the page: http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-vinyl-tubing/=q738tx

The local hobby shop is probably a bad steer. I checked a couple of full service hobby shops on line and all they have now is silicon so not much chance of the LHS having any. Sorry.

Hi Steve,
Don't forget your local pet store.....the fish section. No idea if the 2 sizes you are looking for will be there but worth a look.
As to rivets check out Hanson rivets, they have a huge selection & as you are in the States they will take your credit card & ship to you, the only down side for those of us in other countries is they don't do either, bit hard to understand given the way most people shop on line to a greater or lesser degree. I got, I a round about way, 3/32 x 1/2 stainless from them some years ago. Oh there are other as well.
Cheers Kerrin

Should be ok for water hose. not sure if it will be any good for fuel.
For the fuel hose you may have to go to some thing a bit more pricey - Cole Palmer go down to 25ft minmum.

Silicon tube is not good with petrol :ShakeHead:
You used to be able to get a fuel line called "red line" which had a red line down the side that way clear as vinyl and OK with petrol. Looking for it now just turns up results for red silicon.

What used to be Small Parts, Inc. is now Amazon Supply. Nevertheless they're worth a look. For instance, they have 1/16 tubing...

Certainly worth exploring a bit.

Steve try Tower Hobbies For tubing. Dale

Steve,
DuBro products offers short lengths (2-3 ft.) of clear silicone and "Tygon" yellow line for use with gasoline. I can't tell if the Tygon is transparent or not. The Tygon is available in 3/32, 1/8, and 5/32.
