Since I had to do this I figured I post a quick write up and a couple of pictures.
Not everyone knows that a Kurt style vice can hold much larger parts. The holes that are on the back face of the fixed block and the moving block are there to bolt the jaws to. Also, the jaw holes are not on center so that the jaws can be "flipped" upsidedown. By mounting the jaws this way, it is possible to hold much larger parts in the vice or get closer to the column (as was my need) due to limited Y travel.
Picture 1 shows the jaws mounted upsidedown. The fixed block has the jaw mounted on the back face and the moving jaw is mounted on the normal face. I used t-nuts as jackscrews to level the part under the moving jaw since I don't have a parallel that matches the height of the fixed block.
Picture 2 shows the same setup from another angle.

In addition, the moving jaw can go on the other side of the moving part of the vise for large flat parts.

Just remember not to drill into your vise which is now being used as a big parallel :wallbang:

Yes Dave. I thought I made it clear, but in rereading my post I see that it is not. My bad. By using any combination of the jaws mounted on the four faces, various sized parts can be held.

That's when you make taller jaws and mount the part up on parallels anyhow.
