All my friends, and there are many!
The last week and a half of my life has been the most difficult. My normally extremely healthy daughter has been diagnosed with a lymphoma. We believe we found it in time, and the current prognosis is very good!....but it will be a road to hell and back for sure. I am at a loss as to how to tell all of you, and not leave someone out, and although I don't like putting this kind of information out in the public arena, I felt I had little choice if timely communication was to occur.
She's in good spirits considering the amount of time spent in the hospital recently...and amazingly, I've not completely lost my mind, though that is still an option. I would be far less stressed if it were me...but It's different when it's your kid.....
In any case, wish us luck....a big battle is coming our way for sure....I'll take what ever I can get!
Dave

My very best and sincere wishes to your daughter and family Dave.
This is a nightmare for sure...unimaginable.
My thoughts are with you.
It is so helpful that she's in good spirits. That is much of the battle.

Thanks Zee..

Positive thinking has beat more of this crap than anything else I think. It's always hard, but when it's family it's really hard.
Our thought and prayers go out to you. Let us know if there's anything......

Life is a pig, you have to fight for every last inch, best wishes.

Hang in there Dave she will need your support now more than ever , think of the treatment as a series of small baby steps not as a huge mountain to climb
Many years ago over 15 Linda was diagnosed with ovarian cancer op,and chemo followed , now she is Ok , in fact better than me
People forget things like this affect the whole family in different ways
Pass our best wishes to her

This is a tough time for you :( :( However she is young and fit and modern cancer treatments are extremely good. Do everything you can to keep positive, that really does help.

So sorry to hear this Dave,
My thoughts are with you, your daughter and the rest of your family.

Dave
Thank you for trusting the many friends that you have here to understand your families shock at this bad news. It is good that it was discovered early and that medical science has been making such great advances in treatment. I think that there is good reason to hope for a good outcome. My thoughts are with you and your entire family.

Hi Dave,
As I get older more and more of my friends and relatives are being diagnosed with some type of serious illness and I guess I accept it as part of life and aging but it's always devastating news when someone younger is diagnosed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend.
George
-
Thanks George.....
-
I don't know You so don't know how this fits............... prayers gladly offered, if You don't personally believe in them that's Ok, Your still getting them!
-
I believe in them Mcostello.....my daughter is an athlete. She trained 4 hours a day, 6 days a week, and we had no notice what so ever.....until one day over the period of 3 hours the lymph node in her neck went from normal to the size of a computer mouse!.....That was the trigger to get checked out. When I described that to a doctor, he said that was EXTREMELY unusual....personally, I think a guardian angel did that....to get our attention........
-
We're all behind you Dave, and well wishes for a good outcome on your daughters illness. We're hear if you needs us, so keep us posted on her progress. Thoughts an prayer are with you also my friend......
Don

Just got your PM and it stunned me. My family and I send you and your daughter our most sincere wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. Try to stay positive. Attitude is as important as treatments. Tell Ava she has a lot of old guys pulling for her.
-
Dave,
As the parent and husband of cancer survivors, I can tell you that you will get past this and I wish you all the best of luck. Keep your spirits high as these things can and will be beaten and life goes on.
Were all in the background pulling for you.

My thoughts are with you, your family and esp. your daughter. Cancer is a scary thing, but can be beaten.
Positive attitude and diet can be very helpful. I am a prostate cancer survivor from 2012, family support and removing negativity helped a lot.
Consider getting a copy of http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Cancer-Treatment-Nutrition-Cookbook/dp/0778802981 It helped me while undergoing radiation therapy. Still make recipes from the book now :-)

Dave;
Sorry to hear this news and I wish her and your family a quick recovery. What you have working for you is that there's not much on this earth tougher and more adaptable than a child. She has the strength - it's up to you to find the courage to get thru each day and support her. And I know you do!
Best wishes and keep us posted on her recovery.

Captain, the waters will be rough and the storm fierce, however, steer staight into it and give it full steam, there's enough of us here to fire the boiler ;). I wholeheartedly agree with Gerrit, get the book or one like it, the body and nature are two powerful forces, even the Docs will agree. Holler if'n you needs anything .

Sorry to hear about your daughter. .... my family's prayers going out to yours !! To a complete recovery. ...and stay strong for her and your family !!!

I can only send my best wishes to you and your family. A good mate of mine with a brain tumour has done the diet thing. He's still here a year after he was given 6 months, looks ridiculously healthy, and no sign of it coming back. Fingers crossed for Ava, which is my favourite nieces name. Hugh.
-
Dave, we have it in the family also.
I have a idea what you are going thru.
Wish your daughter al the best and strength for her recovery.
And for the family, patient and strength for the coming time.
Tjark.

Dave,
I am so sorry to hear the news about your daughter. I can't imagine what you and your family are facing right now, but there is nothing worse than the feeling that you can't protect your children.
We will hold you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Please pass our support along to your wife, daughter, and son. You will all need an extra measure of strength through this.
Kim

Bummer Dave - all my very best to her, you and the rest of the family. Be strong!

My prayers for your daughter and your family.

Best wishes for you and for a complete recovery for your daughter. I had a "scare" around 1980 where my lymph nodes became enlarged, but it was found to be Toxoplasmosis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasmosis), which apparently I got from my cat, and it resolved itself. Our Governor Larry Hogan had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Hodgkin_lymphoma) and his treatment seems to have been fully effective. In 2001 my first colonoscopy found a cancerous polyp, which was successfully removed and I have been "clean" ever since and I did not need chemo or radiation. There are an abundance of success stories, and I'm sure your daughter will be one of them. Stay strong and positive!

It must be a great relief.......

Dave, that is wonderful news!

Great news Dave. I know that is some relief at least.
Bill
-
That is very good news.
BTW, one recommendation is to ensure that your daughter gets a physical copy of the scans, doctors results, etc. The reason is that she might need them years later, after those files have gone into long term storage. The scans should come on a DVD/CD, with a viewer included. They are DICOM format, lots of tools to view them with if you don't like the supplied one.
I learned this from the Prostrate Support group here while dealing with my prostrate cancer, take as much control over your own healthcare as possible, and be directly involved at every step.

I've been too busy to check in for a number of days and this is the first I see here - not nice, but at least it's discovered early, and this improves the outcome by quite a factor ...!
I really hope for a speedy recovery and good outcome - she's much too young to have this "Dammed" (as cancer and it's derivatives are known as in my family) decease.
Best wishes

Chemo is on the docket...and she'll probably lose her hair....
:toilet_claw: Not good
A thought: one of the lasses I know with turned her projected hair loss from chemo into a charity fund raising event: She did a sponsored head shave, it was going to happen anyway. It didn't make feeling horrible for months go away but when people asked that embarrassing question about what happened about your hair she could say I raised money for charity 8) She's happily through it with a full head of hair again.
Even though each day may seem long, you will all get through it and we are with you all :)
Jo
-
Dave, this is good news.
How earlier they detect it the better it is.
Hoping for the best and the hair will grow on after the treatment.
Tjark.
-
Sounds like a plan is laid. I know about losing the hair, but, at least hers will grow back 8). Now down here around Springbucket when this sort of thing happens the dad will shave his head in support :stir: :stir: Just saying. Thinking about you.

I'd do it if it would make her feel better.....then again...I'm pretty ugly, so a generous supply of hair kinda minimizes the impact to society in general.
But I did warn the wife I'd do it.

I just finished reading back over this thread. You all have had quite the stressful 2 1/2 months. It's wonderful to hear that you're headed towards a positive outcome.
