Title: Another solenoid engine : 6 in line
Post by: Hagar on July 27, 2018, 04:34:46 PM
Hello everyone,

Today, i present another solenoid engine of mine. As usual, the same chinese solenoids are used to power a 120° cranckshaft. Still running on a 4 stroke cycle.
No real news on this toy, compared to the solenoid V8 i've made a few years ago : same solenoids, same micro-switches, facing the same camshaft, so why is this new thing born for ?

The answer : you must see this engine as half the next one. I mean i'm planning a V12 based on the same layout. Now this 6 in line runs, every tech ideas i chose are approved for his future brother.

As i worked as quick as i could, a few pictures are available. I can only show these below.
But my next engine should be better shot. ;)

I made a video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpyMFGMv7cU

Very nicely done!
Do I understand correctly that the lever you were pressing on the side moves the switches in to the cam, so that the farther in the longer the powered time on the solenoid, which is why it goes faster? Very clever.

Beautiful machine work and an interesting design.

Have a great day,

Thank you.

Yes, it's exactly how the speed is controled. Simple and easy to make. The distance between the micro-switch and the cam is related to the angle of the power phase.

Very Nice. It sounds nice, like the steam and air engines usually seen here. I like the way you vary the speed.

I am sure the V12 will be impressive. I have been thinking of building some type of multiple "cylinder" solenoid engine myself.

Thank You for posting,

ShopShoe

Very neat engine!
It would make a great office desk toy.

That really is quite cool!  I hadn't had a chance to watch the video till just now and that is really neat.
Can't wait to see the 12 cylinder version!

Thank you,

I'm working on the double six version. First parts are on my desk now.
As i'm used to make most of the parts, i think it could start before september. :LickLips:

Another idea is turning in my head : V12 has two lines with 6 coils each and 60° between lines. It must be possible to design an engine with three lines and a W pattern. Some early planes had such an engine.
Just an idea. At first, i have to make a running V12... ::)
