This one should work

Good thing I got here early. Reserved a number of spaces.

The people who made it to Cabin Fever early must be partying.
No sign of them since yesterday afternoon.
The bums.
I will be arriving tomorrow. I'll see in what shape they are and will report accordingly.
Any of you bums seeing this who don't want to be included in my report...I can be bought...cheap.
Cheap in terms of google, apple, facebook...

Zee
How can you possibly insinuate that we're anything but highly constructive, engine related stuff?

Mosey...pour a little faster...but not enough to dribble. Wait a bit.
Soon as the eyelids start to flutter...show him some duct tape. The silver kind.
Then blow in his ear (softly) and you'll be able to sell him anything.
If that doesn't work...waft some BBQ sauce under his nose. Doesn't matter if it's good or bad...you'll get a reaction.
Then blow in his ear (softly)...
You can try putting your arm around him...but if it's not timed right it could go really bad.
Aw...I'm probably teaching you to suck eggs ain't I?

Wait a minute. The thread says Cabin Fever pix and all I see are three guys sitting at a bar mugging it up for, I assume, a blonde barkeep :Jester: Where's the engines?
cheers,

Just back from Cabin Fever.
Had a great time and it was really good to meet everyone. Already looking forward to next year.
I couldn't stay for dinner and I'm hoping we'll have another chance next time.
Got my beans!! Thanks Eric and Lou. Lunch was a highlight. I should have asked for take-a-way for the trip home.
Don't know what's up with Stan, Scott, and Dreeves. They keep asking me to join them for breakfast. Raises frightening questions.
I've got a few pics to show but probably not much to add to what everyone else has done. Camera died on me and I couldn't make it work even after a change of batteries.
Speaking of pics... :cussing: Some one's going to have to answer Jo. This is not my fault.
I showed up properly attired...yes...tu-tu and all. But see those pictures of me?
Notice that shirt? If you go back to my micro-lathe thread you'll see me in that same shirt when I was in Europe.
I've been photoshopped!!! :cussing:
Fess up!
For those who were not there...don't believe whatever excuses these people come up with.
Remember, several of them were out carousing last night.
You can't trust a jokester.
And I think there's an exponential involved when there's a group of them.
[EDIT] P.S. Thanks everyone for all the pics (other than one or two) and all the work. I hope you'll all be back next year.

It was a great show and very enjoyable. The wife and I had a great time visiting with everyone. Got to met Zee great fellow to chat with. We enjoyed Eric and Lou's hospitality, Lou was a very attentive host as was Eric. Dave, Bill, Eric, Stan, Mosey, and Ptech Paul guys enjoyed meeting all of you. We enjoy the dinner and conversation. Your friendships were the greatest and I shall cherish the time we spent together and look forward to another year. I will if at all possible return next year. You have been the greatest group of guys I have ever meet and I really felt like I had known all of you for years.
Many thanks from my wife and myself for all of your hospitality and making us feel welcomed.
Phil, Aussie Jim, Bob, Dave and Bob is was great meeting you guys also and wish you guys could of joined us for dinner.
Regards Don

Thanks Bill, Stan and everyone for the great pictures and letting us enjoy the show as much as we can from afar.
Looks like you guys had a blast!
Cabin Fever is a huge show! Looks like it would take all day to get around it! And the for-sale stuff looked plentiful. I'm thankful for GEARS, but the few years I've attended have been nothing like this! (he says, revealing his mild jealousy)
Thanks for sharing your time at CF with us,
Kim

To all my newly met , old friends . Thank you so much for coming! I had a great time! It was a real pleasure!

Hi guys, thank you very much for sharing all the pictures and impressions from your show. Good to have this forum, so I am able to learn, that engine model makers around the world are very similar. Some great engines are visible at the pictures. Thanks for sharing.

:o You have put the bar rather high with that MEM display. I'll have to see if we can do something equally as good in the UK in July but you will have to wait to find out what :LittleDevil:.

Thank you everyone for making me feel so welcome and for inspiring me with the quality of your work.
Thanks also for the photos of all my new friends.
A special thanks to Phil an Pam Oles for inviting Bernie and me into their home and for driving miles and miles to pick us up and return us to Baltimore. It made the trip to CF really special for us. It also shows the strength of the bonds that can quickly be formed between like-minded lunatics.

Really something, you blokes - I dearly wish I could be there (instead of here swinging off the end of a chainsaw)

Jo,
Equally good?
We only showed you a brief snippet of the good,
You can't imagine the depth of talent and quality of the people here!
We'll show the castings later.
Do your best and enjoy.

Zee et al,
A tie clip engine? I don't wear ties anymore but I want one. True geekdom could at last be mine.
I remember seeing somewhere a photo of an engine built into a finger ring with an air line running up the sleeve to an armpit air bulb.
Thanks to all of you for the great photos. I really, really wish we could put together a similar show out here on the left coast. Men, Metal and Machines was great while it lasted but apparently it wasn't economically viable.
-
True geekdom could at last be mine.
I have no doubt you had it. You might have gone past it though. ;D
-
I recognize that tie clip engine Marv.
It was made by Jerry Pontius who is an very talented model engineer; Jerry has been a regular at the GEARS show for a number of years.
Jerry builds amazing (sometimes very small) engines working only from photos and patient drawings.
Here is a picture (from Carl Carlsen's web site) showing Jerry and some of his creations.

Gone past it? Well, maybe. I suppose that, after physical geekdom, one progresses to mental geekdom. Does writing a C program to do long term Mayan calendrical computation count? How about a Julian date algorithm to handle dates prior to 0 AD?
My physical geekdom isn't totally dead though. I still carry a Leatherman every day and secretly lust after the Swiss Army knife with the built-in thumb drive.
-
Jo,
We'll show the castings later.
Ok there is later and later :Director: Its been six hours and still no signs of casting sets :hellno:
Since then I have even had an Email where the sender said "No you don't need another set of castings." :disappointed: Last time someone said that to me it was grounds for divorce :LittleDevil:
Jo

Looks like I'm safe them :mischief:
Can anyone help Jo with who supplies the castings for the Mogul sideshaft, I know PMD used to do one but thought that was a 4hp tank cooled and not a hopper like the one shown.

After attending Cabin Fever, I now have to figure out a way to get to NAMES someday.
For anyone who has never attended a show, GO! To see everything in person just adds to the whole experience of this hobby. Bill's Briggs & Stratton engine sounds incredibly like the real thing. To meet members in person is the "cherry on the icing". What a great bunch of people. What a great hobby.
-Bob

Awesome last day! Packed up and went to the NAWCC. museum. Picked up a bunch of books that I'll be reading tonight then going to Gettysburg tomorrow morning early.
I'll post a bunch of pics and vids then.

I just returned from the show. It was amazing, as usual. The highlight was hosting AussieJimG, designer of the Bonzer engine I'm building and his wife Bernie. While Bernie and my wife Pam were sampling the atmosphere of downtown Lancaster yesterday on a glorious spring day, Jim and I were at the CF show. We had great fun trading stories about the differences and similarities between the USA and OZ cultures. The ability of forums like this to get folks together is awesome.
This morning just before shuffling off to Baltimore to get Jim and Bernie back to their hotel I had to spin the Bonzer over one last time and she rewarded Jim and I with a nice, but short, throaty roar! What a trip it's been.
It was especially cool to meet fellow MEM members. Now I can place a face with a tutu name. A great bunch of fellow gearheads that I'm happy to call fiends friends :Jester:
Cheers,
Phil
-
Dave...wished I could have stayed today as well...the weekend was a total blast. I was driving through Gettysburg around 7 this morning, no traffic at all, just total serenity and beautiful looking across the battlefields in the early morning mist. It's hard to be there or even drive through it and not imagine how different it would have been 150 years ago at the height of the Civil War. Enjoy your visit tomorrow!!
Mosey...I will be following along on your die filer project. Those are some good looking castings and I eyed them more than once myself.
Jo...there is a least one other member (not saying who) that took some castings home as well, but I am sure he will post in due course.
Stan...I will be anxiously following along on your RE build too. I'll try to look over the drawings and see if I can recall (or made any notes) as to the few little issues I found on them.
To ALL of you that were at the show (and I don't want to list names for fear of leaving someone out), it was a pleasure and honor to meet you all and enjoy the fellowship that we were able to share both at and outside of the show.
Bill

Well I just got home from a great Show. Glad to see the guys and meet some new friends. I will post some pictures later tonight.

Looks like you all had a LOT of fun!
Thanks for the photos and videos :praise2: - wish I could go one day!
Kind regards, Arnold

Well the wife and I are just getting home from our trip also and I hope the rest of you get home safe as well. Dave my friend have a save trip to Gettysburg and home.
And for any member who I my failed to mention there names it was my pleasure to meet all of you.
Regards Don
-
Great photos everyone. I especially appreciate all the photos of members. I have seen engines and photos of lots of engines but I rarely get to see photos of the people I get to know on the forum. Looks like everyone had a great time. Nothing like a show to get one pumped up with lots of new ideas and inspiration for the coming year.
Glad to see that many are home safely already and the rest are o the way.

Pretty much unpacked now all except for the engines which will go back to work with me tomorrow. My shopping list for CF was short, mainly wanted to get some inserts for my A.R. Warner turning and boring tools which happen to use he same inserts. I had mentioned before the show wanting to get the Rudy Kouhoupt book containing the radial 5 after watching Kim's nice work on this engine and Dreeves 1/2 scale version of the same engine. While at the Village Press table, I saw their new book on Ray Hasbrouck's engines so that was a must have also. Then after seeing Dave's work on the half scale radial 5, it didn't take too much arm twisting ( I think I can blame Stan for that :) ) to see that the Warner grooving tool would be ideal for cutting the fins on the cylinders. Their show specials had some attractive pricing also. So anyway that was the extent of my contribution to the modeling economy, but I'm happy with what followed me home.
Bill

I too would like to echo the other posts that I had a great time at Cabin Fever, and would like to thank Gary and the rest of the people who made it possible. Now for the sensory overload withdrawl seeing all of the great models and talking with modelers and visitors. I hope everyone has safe travels home, and hope to see you again next time. ART

Oh have I got some photo's!....and better yet vids!
I've got them sorted....let me get them on PB...and I'll put up a link.

Guy's - just read right through these posts - that's some show you have there. Stunning exhibits :praise2: but you know what makes it for me? Finally being able to put people behind all those 'names' ;).
To quote a well known participant 'Y'all' must had a great time. You've certainly set the bar high and Jo, you're right, it's going to be a hard act to follow let alone match.
Apart from those personalities however I'm left with one overriding impression - that gorgeous looking cream coloured M'c Onie - I don't know who built it but I can say I'm gonna copy it (well once I get it finished that is ;D)
Thanks for all your pics
Regards - Ramon
-
I'll be at NAMES in a couple of weeks and can take some pics of that show as well. Plus some casting porn for Jo with the Joy Valve engine castings I'll be picking up.
I've attended CF the previous two years and would have again except for a schedule conflict. The consignment tables and auctions have made for an expensive show for me in the past.
-
that gorgeous looking cream coloured M'c Onie
Ramon,
I believe the builder of that model is a friend of mine from the Rough & Tumble museum. If you want to get in touch with him PM me and I'll connect you guys up

OK boys, Whiskey is back on the air, well, kinda sorta. After 1653 miles and a bunch of diesel fuel, the three of us are home. For those of you that were checking on us, we appreciate the concern. We camped by a swollen stream in a state park near Lou's mother's house, visited a bit and as Billy Joel sang, "Took the chance to forget about life for awhile". Had great, yet cold weather driving home. Now, Cabin Fever. Well, let me start by saying that every member here should be proud of Stan. He represented this forum in a manner that made some of the big vendors jealous. He took care of the membership that was there as a conference director would oversee a major event. Many thanks my friend. My next highlight was being able to share my food with new friends, put names with faces, shake hands, get the bro hug, and just sit and talk. I felt as if I was at a class reunion with people I've known all my life, just had never met before. And let me tell you boys, if I ever get in a scrape, I sho wouldn't mind having Steamer and Don1966 around, damn thay is some big old boys :lolb:. The Saturday night dinner was great, my hat (bowler) is off to whoever picked it. There was even a lot of nice machinery to look at there :LittleDevil: :mischief: :lolb:, wasn't it Mosey? ;). I'm not going to single out each one, but, tell all that I visited with how much I enjoyed it. Here's my purchase pics.

Now, for Jo; there are castings in those boxes. I'm only giving hints: It's a city in Minnesota, a hockey team, and the name of a boot maker in the US. I also bought the die filer castings from Martin, but they sold out and had to ship them. I think Mosey got the last set :lolb:

I just want all you guys that went to CF how much those of us who stayed home appreciate the great SACRIFICE you made spending at least a weekend, and in some cases a week, going to the show. All just so the rest of us could stay home and play in our warm shops. No worries about getting an engine ready for the show. We didn't have to even have to put on a clean shirt so we could meet people. No sorting of photos and trying to remember peoples names and their models so yu could post them.
Thanks everyone. Great to see you all were able to endure it.

Can't thank you guys enough for the kind words. However, without the rest of the "usual suspects", I would have just been another exhibitor (albeit with a banner and 10 engines.)
The members who came to CF were a great presence for MEM.
Now that the rest of you have seen the amazing weekend we had, both at the shoow and at various alcohol-based establishments, get off your butts and starting planning to join us next year. 20+ members this year. Let's double that next year.
My thanks to Steamer, Bill Lindsey and Eric for keeping me under control. Mosey for providing humorous interludes. Dave and Scott for infiltrating the HMEM area. Paul, for sitting next to Mosey and not asking HMEM for political asylum. Phil for driving halfway to Australia to limo Aussie Jim around. 90LX Notch for letting us know that the chip on the end of the brass rod is the column for his 1/4 scale Tiny. And, of course, all the guys who came to lend moral support (and who will show engines with us next year.)
Finally, the best damn BBQ I've ever had at Chez Whiskey. Eric, Lou and D.O.G. were great hosts. What a great break from the show. Zee wore his dressy tutu for the occasion. Yum!

Great photo Stan. I never got to thank the mate who posted bail for us
AussieJimG taught me a whole bunch of terms from OZ. Some are quite handy and I can't wait for the opportunity to use "rat bags" again but "mate" will do for now.
Cheers,
Phil

All I have to say is: If you guys take a boat trip, don't all stand on the same side of the boat.
What's with that scale behind you? Halfway between 5'00" and 6'00" is 5'60". Is Stan trying to test our observation skills or is it Pennsylvania Dutch arithmetic?

There's the Marv we know and love....

Marv
When you get images online, you take what's available. I'm quite sure it's a height tolerance.

Upon further reflection, let's keep Stan, and send Marv to England! Yeah!

If you mean Jo as the sun...I'm up for it.
Besides, it's difficult to get a good curry around here. Love the curry over there. The closest I've come to the same is actually in Queretaro Mexico!

I didn't. I meant the bright yellow thing in the sky.

I think the best thing is we send Marv at the next show to go help out on the H-MEM stand. Its not as far to go and I am sure he would make an impact :LittleDevil:

You two like spicy food then you would surely like our crawfish étouffée and catfish sauce picante. Down here spicy food is a lot of the foods we eat. But we don't use curry powder ours is more Tabasco sauce and Tony Chacheres spicy seasoning.

While I do enjoy spicy food (particularly when it has curry), I'm not a big fan of things that live in the water and have legs. I do enjoy a good crab cake (no legs) but never eat lobster. I don't know why I love shrimp though.
As for jellied water (fish)...I never order it when I'm out but I do enjoy the various dishes T comes up with.
If I've offended my coastal friends...sorry about. ;D I'm afraid I'm a fairly picky eater.
At least my picky-ness doesn't extend to my friends. ;D

Today we come to the end of our trip to Cabin Fever after spending a month among the friendly, helpful and polite people of the USA.
Bernie had a "pack attack" on Tuesday night (lay awake worrying about packing to to home) so she didn't come with me to visit Eric (Tennessee Whiskey) and Betty Lou yesterday.
Eric said that a friend of his would pick me up at the hotel in a white four door Lincoln. He didn't tell me how much Lincoln would be between the four doors because, he said, he wanted to surprise me. Well, he did that all right; I now know how Cinderella felt when she went to the ball.
We spent the day together with me drooling over Eric's toys ( I now have shed envy and toy envy to add to the tool envy contracted at Phil's place) and then retired to the poolside bar where we solved the problems of the world with the aid of several glasses of philosophical fluid.
It was the perfect end to a wonderful trip.
I am very grateful for the hand of friendship extended to me by so many people and particularly to Phil and Eric who went out of their way to make me welcome.
It was a wonderful experience. Thanks everyone.
