With gas heading back to the good ole days, It's time to make plans for the 2016 N.A.M.E.S. Expo, whether as an exhibitor or vendor.

Time to get your motel reservations
-
Everything moving along toward the show dates and vendors booths filling up.
-
It's getting down to crunch time, For the vendors as of Saturday only one space was left.
-
Can't wait. Reservations made. Engines polished.
-
Have a safe trip! Looking forward to see you again.
-
Who else is going?
A MEM table like last year would be nice.
-
Stan,
I'll be there, and it would be nice to sit with others from the group. This is as good a place as any to ask: what fitting do I need to hook up to an air valve at the table? I believe it's 1/4 NPT, but what gender? I still hope to have my Roberts Mechanism steam engine running by then, and I have acquired the trick regulator setup that you (Stan) use, the SMC ARM1000.
--Tim
-
I plan too be there also.
Stan you started something there, I also acquired one of those regulators.
Get the banner up.
-
The fitting on the manifold are 1/4" petcocks with the female end facing user end. Stan plant the Banner and stake out some space it would be helpful for him to know how many will be there under the MEM banner.
-
I plan to go .
-
Stan,
I plan to be there. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

I am planning to be there, only missed #1 because I did not know about it but have made it every other year. It is just about a 2000 mile round trip for me, and for 26 years that is about 56,000 miles I have driven to be there. How is that for a crazy thought?
I will be doing my nearly annual talk "Adventures in home shop CNC" on Saturday at 10:30. Hope to see a bunch of you there. I will be reporting on the new CNC lathe conversion I am doing for theCNCworkshop.com. We plan to have the proto model there running.
-
I plan to be there as well, although unsure if I'm going to drive or fly. I'm definitely interested in the CNC lathe conversion project.
-
I will be there with a small group, trying to talk my granddaughter into cutting a day of school
to bring her stuff to show.
Bob
-
I well be there setting next to Bob. Have made everyone so far!
-
Boss gave me Friday off so I'll be down about noonish. Packed up Sunday so all i need to do is load the car and drive!!
-
Hope all you guys have a blast. The rest of us are expecting the usual great picture coverage of the event ;)
Bill

Most pics will be posted, however, the good ones will be available on PayPerView :lolb:

Looking forward to the pics. Include the members!
As for paying...I'm sure us members get a discount of '100%'!!!
-
Looking forward to seeing everyone and all the amazing models too.
This will be only my second time; the first time 20 plus years ago I just walked around in awe. The internet really wasn't what it is today; Live Steam and maybe the Home Shop Machinist were about the only exposure I had to model engineering.
So many of the guys that I was able to see the works of are no longer with us. George Luhrs, Paul Jacobs, Richard Shelly, and many others; but at least there are still a bunch of dedicated folkst that keep the ME fraternity alive and well.
Dave
-
So many of the guys that I was able to see the works of are no longer with us.
Yeah...wish I could be there to meet some of the members I haven't met in person yet. Couple of years yet.
So be sure to hang in there!!
-
Pretty much packed up. Leaving Wed early AM. Thurs at The Henry Ford.
Pix to follow.
-
I'm planning to head out early Thursday for the 10 hour drive.
-
I'm planning to head out early Wednesday for the 20 hour drive. Hope to see y'all there.
maury
-
Hi Maury
I'm looking forward to seeing the Forrest I hope you are bringing it along?
Dave
-
Stan , make sure you also Visit Greenfield Village . Jeff
-
Jeff
I did the museum last year and my plan was to do Greenfield Village this trip. Weather forecasts drizzle for Thurs so I may end up doing the museum again (not a bad thing)
-
Wish I could make it! Been too many years now for me but life has a way of making it hard to get everywhere you hope! Have a great show all, look forward to pictures!
-
Pretty much packed up. Leaving Wed early AM. Thurs at The Henry Ford.
Pix to follow.
Stan! Take a look at Henry Ford's engine from highland park. It looks to me like a tandem snow. I think one side is steam and the other is gasoline. I think the snow drawings could be modified to replicate that engine. Just need to add the fancy covers.
-
I am loading today, on the road tomorrow morning. Its only 15 hours, but being an old man now, and retired, I take it in two days. Hope to spend the night near Rochester NY, then into Wyandote Thursday afternoon.
I will plug my seminar- scheduled for Saturday at 10:30- Adventured in Home Shop CNC. I will have the new lathe conversion to show.
-
Hi Ron,
Hope to see you at the show !
Brian
-
Gee, with all these "heavy hitters" showing up I feel like I'm going to Oscars with a backstage pass 8)
Cletus
-
I will be there Saturday Morning with a few of my gas engines and various other things and I am looking forward to meeting everyone and some new and old friends.
Jack, driving from St. Louis, Missouri
-
Just look for the MEM banner over my table.
Cletus will be signing autographs from 11-noon on Saturday :lolb:
-
Stan , You have to make it a point to Visit Greenfield Village , one thing you can do is to make a brass candle stick(birthday cake candle ) on the Brown and Sharpe turret lathe that's in the Armington and Simms machine shop .Other points of interest are the Round house , Edison's work shops and the model t's .
Steve the Gas Steam engine in the museum burns producer gas on one side and the other side is Steam, producer gas was waste from the blast furnaces .
I plan on leaving on Friday for the show .Jeff
-
I'll be on location Friday morning. See everybody there!
--Tim

Weather looks to be good this week end. We are set up and the vendors started dropping of their wares yesterday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing friends at the show. See you this weekend!;)
-
Exhibitor tables filling up, looks to be a great weekend weather wise. Vendors were busy loading their tables with their wares. Looks to be a great week end. If you can come on up to the show.

Setup day. More today

Great pictures Stan as always. Nice to see the MEM banner flying high too!! Looks like the start or a great show. You guys enjoy!!
Bill
-
Thanks for all those Stan, some good engines there. If possible would you be able to take a closer photo of the Allman vertical engine as that looks to be running hot tube ignition rather than spark plug.
J
PS I hope that is something engineering related you are all watching on the laptop ;)

Hi Stan liked through the photos and noticed the Yellow curved cylinder engine. Is anymore info available on that and has the maker put details on the engine build on our forum, would be very interested in finding out more thanks

Thanks Stan!
Nice pics. Looks like a great show. It's definitely on my list...just a matter of when.

Great show and great folks. I was personally able to fuss at and thank Steve Hucks for leading me into this hobby or sickness :lolb: I brought them a one ton truck load of Tennessee sunshine ( I said sunshine 8) and the weather is beautiful. Bill, I exercised the Amex a bit, but, I didn't do near as good of a job as you did :lolb:
On Location

Gosh do I wish I were there.
Say Eric...did Lou come along?
If she did, then I will build an automatic self-butt kicking machine.
Although T is pretty good at keeping me in shape.

Aha! I'm thinking he's trying to out do me. Wonder why that is? :naughty:

Pete, Stan can confirm but I think the fellow on the left is Craig Libuse, now the director of the Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum, started by Joe Martin the founder of Sherline tools. The fellow on the right is George Britnell.

Our resident photographer is doing an outstanding job, don't you think? Let's all give him a round of applause. Yeah, that's Col. Cletus :lolb: Hey, just look at the picture , I'll take hair wherever it'll grow :lolb:

Boy, you ain't gonna leave me alone you dog: does T know you're still up ?
Yeah. She's wondering why I'm still awake. I'm usually snoring away on the couch at this time.
Might be the excitement of NAMES.
Might be the horror of that tu-tu pic.
But it's probably that I've taken 5 naps today trying to get over this stinking hacking cold.

I had a great time at NAMES; including the pleasure of meeting Eric (Cletus), Art K, Kirk (kvom), Brian (Toolznthings), & George B. I also got to visit with the guys who I had met previously; Maury, Stan and Tim (tvoght). I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to visit with Steve Hucks or Ron Ginger.

In this picture from Stan, Roland Morrison (center), Karl Gross, and I are getting a lesson from Rich Carlstadt (Left) on how he created some of the forged and machined parts on his beautiful Monitor engine. Rich is an amazingly talented guy.

Thanks for the pics Dave! Looks great.
I'm not going to wait for retirement (unless it happens sooner than planned). I'll be there next year.
So you all be sure to show up again.
Got about half way through the pics before something happened. I'll check again later.
Loads of nice engines, models, etc. That black lathe is something.

Wish I was there guys!!! Have a smooth one on me, and hopefully life will be back to normal by next year!
Dave

Some great photo sets, of some truly spectacular work! Thanks for the pictures!

Thanks for the pictures Dave. Between you and Stan, those of us that couldn't go to the show got a good armchair view of all the beautiful models there. Glad everyone got home safe as well!!

Wish I could have gone to the show. I'm sure it was a great show by the pictures I've seen. I would have liked to see some new friend from the forum. I'm a little far south to have attended as I'm enjoying the heat on Sunny Mexico. Hope all made it home safe and sound

Damn, Reeves. If NAMES hadn't been so much fun, I'd almost be annoyed with your hardship vacation.

Hi, Y'all. Just got home last night after a quote gruling long drive. orru I had to leave early, in case you were wondering where I was Sunday. I was afraid of the Tuesday weather prediction for Texas and Arkansas.
The show was GREAT!, and it made it all worth it. Got to visit some with the MEM crew and the crowd. It sure was busy on Saturday, all day. How was Sunday? Had a great time.
maury
-
Hi Maury,
It was good to see you although we didn't get to talk much as I was swamped at the Sherline booth. Saturday was insane but Sunday dropped off quite a bit. There were still a good number of people but by 2:00 pm. it was pretty light. Thanks for traveling all the way from Texas.

Hi all,
Sorry it's taken me a bit to get this posted. For the first time my wife and I stayed till the raffle drawing Sunday, got on the road around 3:30 pm and headed east to Franklin, PA. After a late start Monday we got to my in laws in time for dinner Monday. This morning I down loaded the Sunday photos and caught up on the rest of this post that I missed since I left home. It was great to meet folks like Dave Otto, Eric (Cletus), Chuck Kuhn. Dave I didn't get through your slideshow, I will watch it when I get home and have high speed internet, it took so long to download the photo it was skipping three or four photos in between. :( Stan, thanks for your shots of the show and hopefully mine will fill some blanks in between.
Enjoy

Many thanks Art. You also had some great photos that did indeed fill in some blanks. Hopefully in another year or so I will be able to get back to Cabin Fever and NAMES and some of the other shows.

Thanks for the additional pics Art.

-
Hi Art, thanks for the additional pictures.

Can anyone give me some contact details for Flore DiBernado .
He displayed his magnificent Maserati 4CL car and the equally incredible Maserati 8CL 8 cylinder engine at NAMES this year.
The address on display card says London ,Ontario, Canada.

Art and Dave, thanks for the photos, almost made me feel like I was there, wait a minute, I was :lolb:. Once again, great to see all of you guys .

It was a really good show this year. Great to see members I already knew, and to meet some for the first time.
I managed to spend a little money. I bought a book and a set of castings, and was sitting pretty happy but there was more to come!
gldavison was sticking around for the raffle drawing, and I decided to do so too. Art and his wife then decided to stick around.
You can't imagine my surprise when they called my name for fourth prize. I won the cutest little 3d printer:
https://printm3d.com/
I'm waiting for some filament to give it a spin.
Good show.
--Tim
-
Congrats Tim!
Did you have to be present to win? Looking forward to an update on how it works for you. I bought a couple tickets but didn't ask if I needed to be there for the drawing.
Dave
-
Need not be present to win. But since I was, I got my photo taken shaking a gentleman's hand.
I've been reading reviews of the unit, and it seems that people like it. It seems tiny at first, but the envelope is nearly 10cm cubed.
Seems to me that''s plenty for this class of consumer machine.
--Tim
-
I enjoyed the show, and the paddle engine ran fairly well given its incomplete state. I had the paddleducks engine on the table, but didn't get it to run again as yet.
Picked up a few goodies from the vendors, including a nice lot of small (1/8" and less) carbide endmills for $4 each plus some taper pin reamers. I also got a nice looking Jacobs chuck with a straight shank and a chuck key. I've been seeing my Albrecht keyless chuck come unscrewed on the CNC with small drills when the spindle slows to a stop. Keyed chuck hopefully will solve that problem.
-
Guys thanks so much for the pictures, almost make me feel like I was there. I really wished that I could of been there and glad to see new faces and the names behind them.
Don
