Title: Let's see and discuss your Elmer's Engines
Post by: Flyboy Jim on February 02, 2019, 05:00:29 PM
The digital copy of Elmer's Engines has been getting good press and lots of folks have built them.  I thought it would be interesting to learn about "who has built what".

I've built two: The #25 Wobbler and the #43 Horizontal Mill Engine.

#25 Wobbler

Thanks Guys. That's some nice engines there.

I wonder if identifying them by number would help folks look them up in the book or on the website?

This is an ideal chance for me to show that I can, very rarely, complete something that works.

This is my Elmer #14, which I had great fun making.

Some lovely engines in this thread, always good to see.

Hadn't seen this thread.  The Standby was my 2nd project, documented in the "From Plans" section on this site.

I like the size and simplicity of the Elmer series.  Will probably do more of them when time permits.

Hello all,

Attached are some photos of the Educational engine I had built from Elmers plans and it makes for a very smooth slow runner, though looks a bit tall and spindly in order for the flywheel to clear the base.

The last photo shows the guardian, who unlike Syrus is very placid and doesn't need anything to eat.

That open column engine is great - I hadn't paid any attention to that one before. Very nice rendition of it.

Here's mine.

The launch engine was my 2nd engine. I thought it had gone well until someone pointed out my slitting saw was upside down and I had rubbed the grooves in the valve rather than cutting them.  :facepalm2:
The mill engine was my 3rd engine. It's probably my favorite. It works.  ;D

I pretty much go by plans but am trying to develop a little..."make it mine".

Both very nice engines there Zee.

I forget just how pretty some of Elmers engines are - definitely worth revisiting. It's easy to get hung up on castings, but some of those bar stock engines are a delight.

Zee, I remember when I started my #43 Mill Engine build that you said it was one of your favorites. When I got finished, I'd have to say it was the same for me. Learned a lot from that engine build. I think it's time for another Elmer's engine.  :)
