Title: Doncaster Show 2019
Post by: Chipmaster on September 29, 2019, 08:10:30 PM
Going back to May 2019, I visited the Doncaster Model Engineering Exhibition and took many pictures but didn't get round to editing and copying 139 of them on to Flickr until today. I don't think anyone has posted pictures of the Doncaster show so some of you might like to look in.

and here are some of the pictures,

Terrific pictures Andy, many thanks for posting them, my admiration for those who build models to such a high standard only grows and grows

Good morning Andy.

A wonderful selection of pictures, many thanks.

The steam engine reigns supreme!! And some excellent engineering to boot.

I was particularly drawn to the Stockport vacuum engine, I didn't know about this one! Very pretty. How long have they been produced? And by whom? It reminded me of an Otto Crossley particularly making the " carrier flame ignition " double as the flame admission port.

Cheers Graham.

Thanks Andy for the gallery and the extras on Flickr : that unpainted Fowler (?) road loco is a very lovely creation, just to single out a particular favorite.   Dave

Thanks Andy, some good models there. Interesting to se ethe bipolar motor, I have one of those on the drawing board screen

Graham the Stockport is one of Anthony Mount's designs that was featured in Model Engineer about 10yrs ago, castings are available from Polly Eng.

Hi Jason,
I haven’t heard of a Bipolar motor could you tell me which picture features one of those?

This one. If you wire it to a power supply it will run as a motor. A lot of the early electric fans had motors like this and I thought one would make a change from the usual steam and IC subjects.

The problem is there are three that I quite like the look of, two simple and one more detailed so need to decide which one first. Oh and in researching them I also got side tracked into making "Lecky" which I posted about here a while ago.

Jason beat me to it!

The AGB Dynamo....

Andy has a set of castings for the Retlas " Manchester " dynamo, Vincent and I developed this around the early Eighties. Once " fine tuned " we were able to light a 55W car headlamp bulb with no problem.

Jason is quite right, you can run them as a DC motor too.

With the advent of " rare earth " magnets the field coils could easily be " dummied " without the need for yards of Copper wire!   ;)

Cheers Graham.

Now there's a thought. I have seen them with a hole in the middle so easy to stack a few up around a screw. Just wrap in string and who will know :-X

Jason

I would have though you would have the decency to make the dummy coil with cotton wrapped copper wire rather than string :stir: :stir:

Depends what one I go for, the most likely is linen wrapped much like the Lecky so would only need the shape of wire below, one is just lacquered copper and the other cotton covered.
