Such spare time as I've had this past couple of weeks I've been beetling away at this (made to order) birthday present for my oldest daughter

A model engineer AND an accomplished woodworker too.  So, you're not just a pretty face?

A nice piece of work.  Your daughter is lucky to have you for a da.

Lovely job Tel, the (rare) stuff I make is much further down towards the "packing case" end of the quality scale.

Thanks all - I have to say I'm not as comfortable working wood as I am metal, but when needs must ....

Almost done with this 'un now apart from some final clean up. I think the brass sets it off well.

Not comfortable :o I avoid the stuff like the plague.

Definitely your daughter will be very proud of her birthday present. Have the others got their lists ready for their birthday's, maybe the next one would like something made in metal: something like a steam engine :LittleDevil:

:( Not a hope! Stuff made of metal is just everyday occurrence with my lot - I seem to get an endless stream of requests.

Last real wood project (which some of you will have seen) was this, for my other daughter's wedding back in March.

Hi Tel,
I think I remarked elsewhere that you are a man of few words but much wisdom - I can see I now need to add 'talent' to that.  Very nice work indeed.

I like working in wood too but very rarely do - it's nice to see other enjoy it too

Regards - Ramon

I used to do both wood and metal for a living, but i no longer do woodwork because the dust gets everyware and is a pain in the bum to clean off the well oiled machines. Here are a couple of pics of the last two jobs i did before retiring.  The 8ft half bottle was for a Manchester university ad campain, and the finished thing had a large bundle of fibre optics to represent bubbles pouring out ( on the stand it was tilted about 45 degrees).  The lit up jobby was for Rolls Royce to use at motor shows. One of the pictures was replaced with a tele screen and the unit contained an endless vid tape player to show some of the custom stuff they did, and the whole thing had to rotate.

Cheers Dek. :old:
