Title: Adapting Sherline Chucks
Post by: Roger B on February 14, 2020, 01:08:02 PM
I am looking for some aditional chucks for my Proxxon FD150/E which has a M16x1 spindle nose. The 2.5" Sherline chucks seem to be a sensible size and price. The Sherline standard is 3/4-16 which is ~19mm so 16mm should be ok. I am planning to purchase the M14x1 versions, bore out the thread, rethread M16x1 and then machine the register. Does this sound reasonable?

I asked Sherline if they were interested in supplying M16x1 but the answer was no.

That sounds reasonable.      I didn't see much of a register on the chuck itself    I have both of the 3 jaws, and I'm using the small one on the Levin, and the large one with a 3C shank in the Southbend.

I'm considering facing back the adapters just a touch to make a register, and then boring the same into the chucks to improve repeatability.....but I've not actually measured anything yet.
